When buying my bike, I was told that if you think you're going to stick with biking, it's worth spending a bit more money for a nicer bike.

There really is a tangible difference in weight & quality of parts between a $1000 bike & a $3500+ bike.

The components on nicer bike are much better.

If you're looking to ride for "cheap," Bianchi, Cannondale, & Jamis make very nice entry-level bikes.

My Guru is a pretty decent bike-- I ride a friend's Bianchi (I forget which model-- it's "cheap" as they go) & it feels so crude compared to my Ti & carbon guru.
