How much does the average Z owner make a year?

How much does the average Z owner make a year? I figured it would be interesting to see if Nissan hit it's target demographic. A poll would at least keep it anonymous if that's something you want to keep private.

those are some low numbers - do people that actually make below $50,000 buy a $35,000 car? That's 70% of their income, makes no sense at all.

You're forgetting about the used market, and people who live with their folks.

ClemsonWill 03-10-2011 03:24 PM

Does it count if your parents make over $75K? I'm 16 and my parents bought me my Z.

Those numbers don't really mean anything because most people don't finance their cars in one year. If they pay cash upfront then there is no way they only make 50k a year. Now if you made 50k a year and financed a 35k car over 4 or 5 years, that's only 14% of their income over 5 years. I was only making 40k a year when I purchased my Z and I've never had a problem making my payments.

GZ3 03-10-2011 03:33 PM

its all relative to cost of living also....i have no bills except car and isurance and whatever i feel like turning into poop....some people have rent, loans, CC, blah, blah.blah...

Trading value, APR, used car, etc. BTW, I paid less than $35K brand new. ;)

Still, I get what he means. After taxes and all other expenses, what's left over isn't a whole lot. If you don't have to pay student loans, rent or a mortgage, that's a huge weight off your shoulder. If however, you are making less than $35k and DO have other responsibilities, I honestly don't know how you could afford this car. Even if you saved a lot and put down a huge down payment, its still a lot in relation to your income. It would be like a kid making 5 bucks and hour buying a $1000 laptop.

I use to get free room and board in my last position. Needless to say, I miss it a lot. The only thing is I did not get to live which city I lived in which sucked. Otherwise, it was great part of my contract.

I live down town, and rent is mad expensive in this tiny town... I pay here for a 1 bedroom, what I would pay for a three bedroom in AZ

People's financial situation is not identical and can not be comparable when owning a 30-40k car. This poll just shows that some owners work harder to drive their 370z and others not so much.

I guess you would have to work pretty hard to afford it if your not making all that much. Although, any salary is really hard work isn't it? The only one's that had is easy are the ones who got it without paying for it. Even then, they might have deserved it for working hard in school, good grades, being someone's mistress....etc.

SPOHN 03-11-2011 07:57 PM

I'll tell you what sucks. When you analyze your pay. After taxes, insurance, 401k, (i have two plans), and child support for me. Child support is just under the taxes I pay. Glad I only have one child. My insurance is free. But my child isn't.

but you guys do get VHA and BAQ, and its non-taxable. I'm not complaining about it, it was great while I was in, and was a huge part of my compensation.

Your parents must hate you that much.

When I was 16, my parents wanted to buy me a tank to drive to school. They were afraid a car is too fragile.

All the cars that I had I have bought it myself!

:icon17: His parents hate him because they bought him a car? Rush to judgment wouldn't you say boss man? My dad bought me a car when I was 14; I turned out ok (I think) and never took anything for granted up to this day.

:werd:

My parents bought me a car when I was 16 and then another one when I was 18. The first one was totaled in an accident when my sister had it. The second one my parents bought me so I could commute to college and live at home. They really did not want me to dorm there so I took the car :icon17:

After that I started working and have paid for all my cars with my own money.

Lug, it's sizzling hot and beyond thermometer levels :icon17: just responding to the wrong belief that one is a spoiled brat simply because his/her parents bought him/her a car. I think B1ades can attest to that ... his parents didn't want him to turn into Van Wilder at the campus dorms

tjlazer 08-22-2011 02:13 PM

Well I guess I wish my parents bought me a sports car when I was 16. I just got an old beater hatch back, but I was happy. I earned my cars and it feels much better. Builds character and appreciation for your car. :) I find people who get handed expensive sports cars are *usually* spoiled and don't take care of the car as much as someone who had to pay for it themselves with sweat and blood. ;)

shadoquad 08-22-2011 02:14 PM

There are exceptions to the rule no doubt, but if a parent buys a kid a $40k sports car as a first car, one can't help but wonder these things. It's certainly not in the kid's best interest and safety in mind. It's so he/she can look cool and be envied by everyone else. Lets face it, most of us got this car because we like the attention, myself including.

zfive 08-22-2011 02:45 PM

Who's spending the big bucks on mods?

There should be a follow up poll to see who (salary range) are spending their bucks on the multi-thousand dollar mods (rims, FI's, etc.).

Thanks Mike, I do agree with what TJ and you are stating. I had my first car at 14 and was left in charge of gas and ensuring that maintenance schedule was being followed. I've earned my cars since and feels much better about it.
