I think the show is awful, it's just so wannabe.
Also who finishes a season with a recap of the show?!!!
That just means they don't know what else to do already.

Got to agree with you on that. It's like they took every commercial they had for the show, slapped them together, added a bit of voice over and aired it. I would have rather seen the Stig take the Z around the track.

Lemers 01-24-2011 11:11 PM

Every reality show has a reunion show near the end or as the last episode. The real question is " how do you do a recap with about 10 episodes". Like anyone can't remember that far back.

Falcor 01-25-2011 07:34 AM

I think Tanner and Rutledge are fine, I think they have good chemistry together. I just think they need to get more comfortable in front of the camera. there are a few scenes that seem natural that were pretty good in my opinion.

I just wish they would spend more time with some cool cars, it seems like whenever they get an exotic they just fly by the interesting stuff so they can get to the "faux reality TV" stuff.

It's probably no coincidence either that the first person on the track under him beat everyone else's times, significantly, either. It could just be the driver but there's an awful big gap compared to all the others which were relatively close together.
Or it could just be staged like the rest of the show :rofl2:

haggomyeggo 03-15-2011 12:44 PM

I forced myself to finally watch the entire season after I saw the announcement that they are getting a second season.

I agree they are way too forced and there is no fluidity with the show.

Only honestly funny comment was made surprisingly by Tanner on his thoughts on the New Boss Mustang. "well this front splitter looks cool but since its about 3 feet off the ground it isnt going to do much but probably lift the car"

at least he hit the nail on the head about American cars in general. look cool more than be able to properly go around a corner. This is why I like my Z. It can handle and go fast. Might not be the fastest but it has that connected feel.

The US boys will never replace the UK boys. No chance and I will always love the original but if you ever go to Top Gear UK website, I think someone forced James May to support the new show and say its hosts were amazing.

Maybe someone offered to trade his F430 spider and give him a 458 instead. This would be the least I would take for writing in support of the US hosts.

I want to see the UK show come back to America and compete Stig and all in a 24 hour of Lemons race.

google it if you havent heard about it

red6spd 03-15-2011 05:49 PM

When does the new season start?????????

crash1369 03-15-2011 07:05 PM

 so they managed to find somebody dumb enough to pay for another season huh :bowrofl:

Bad hosts or not the show would be tolerable, and maybe even get better... eventually. If they even had One independent, or better yet, Original thought.

Guess we'll see how it goes

Mike 03-15-2011 08:36 PM

Just my humble opinion, but if there was no Top Gear UK, and this was just a new show, people wouldn't give them such a hard time. Enjoy it for what it is, which is not just another food show on cable.

crash1369 03-16-2011 06:11 AM

If there was no top gear UK your right that would help, because they wouldn't be copying it practically word for word. But then it would still come down to the hosts, who it seems most people agree are not very entertaining, although admittedly that probably also has allot to to with their desperate attempt to be the same as the other guys.

Hopefully this season will be better but I'm not getting my hopes up.
That's my opinion, but it seems some people do claim to enjoy the show... although I can't understand why :bowrofl:

red6spd 03-16-2011 09:22 AM

Its a show about cars, I like it.

b1adesofcha0s 03-16-2011 09:24 AM

I like it too. I think the more they do it, the more comfortable the hosts will get and it will eventually get better. It might never be as good as the UK version, but it's still a good show on its own.

Red__Zed 03-16-2011 10:27 AM

I tried watching this once and it was pretty painful.

Cmike2780 03-16-2011 10:55 AM

As bad as some people think this is, think about the other car shows on TV. This is one of the better car shows in the US if you think about it. I'm guessing the Top Gear US budget is nowhere near the UK's version also. This isn't nearly as cheesy as "The PowerBlock" or "Supercars Exposed", but it could be better.

b1adesofcha0s 03-16-2011 11:09 AM

I like the show battle of the supercars. I've only seen like 2 episodes, but it's good from what I saw. Tanner was one of the drivers on there. I don't care how much people say the show sucks, watching a blind guy drift a 370Z was pretty awesome.

I never understood why pretty much every car show sucks. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make a decent show...

Car shows can get boring quick if they're just about numbers and specs. That's what makes Top Gear so good. They have those, but they have other things to make the show more entertaining as well.

I always thought that cutting to shots of tire smoke and mostly naked women would fill in the rest of the show.

You need to send this idea to the people that make boring car shows. They haven't understood that yet.

I'm pretty sure that was staged, almost the entire show is after all

Because the sponsors dictate the show in most cases

I remember reading on this forum that there was someone who actually knew that guy and he really is blind.

It's scripted, but why would they fake a blind guy. It Would be just as entertaining if he ran over the other two host.

haggomyeggo 03-16-2011 04:28 PM

they just had the blind guy on to again copy the UK boys when they had a Blind Man beat Terry Wogan around the top gear test track....

but it was pretty cool that they featured the Z.

wilsonp 03-16-2011 05:46 PM

They definitely copy the UK show's features (not as well) too much, they need to be more original.

And they should have picked some hosts with more car experience (Tanner is fine) and TV experience - sometimes they are painful to watch talk.

red6spd 03-16-2011 07:06 PM

New season starts.................. Anyone know????. I need to clear my DVR of the bunny ranch oh, ummmm I mean the fine family shows from fox.

Late Summer is the unofficial word.

Pretty much. The features aren't what make the UK show good, it's the people on the show. You gotta come up with something that works for your cast.

this is my point. be somewhat original. this is my main problem with the show it fails miserably at trying to copy the UK version.

I got to give them some props for trying though. It's pretty difficult to live up to the expectation of being as good as the UK Top Gear. I feel like they were starting to get into their own little groove towards the end of the season. Hope they do better in Season 2.
