Driving habits that drive your mad!

20 mile drive on the good 'ole I-5 everyday to work. I used to enjoy it but bad drivers are killing me! Here are a few things that drive me mad!

1) Drivers that don't think ahead. IE: drivers that stay in the exit or merge lanes until the very last moment and merge recklessly into traffic.

2) TAILGATERS! WHY TAILGATE!? (L.A. drivers exempt)

3) Driving slow in the fast lane!

Chime in with yours.

frost 02-26-2009 10:04 PM

The phoenix area seems to have a lot of people who change lanes for no reason, and unexpectedly. I know it sounds weird, but those from here will probably know exactly what I mean.
I'll keep it at that since I could write a book about all the things drivers do that annoy me.

I drive I90/405 for the most part..............

1. Left lane slow movers.

This really gets to me because these types seem glued in, they simply don't move out of the left lane until their exit forces them to.

2. I'm going to go slow until you try and pass me people.

(Especially if you got in the right lane to go around them because they are in the left lane going slow)

These two are my biggest issues.

Crash 02-27-2009 04:14 AM

1) People that drive around you really fast just to get in front of you and slow down to a speed SLOWER than you were going in the first place.

2) People that drive on the shoulder to get around you in bumper to bumper traffic.

3) People that merge into a lane slow as possible.

4) (AND THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME!) People that realize their about to miss their exit and without looking fly across 3 lanes to get to the off ramp, instead of saying "Damn, I'll get off at the next one."

5) People that don't look AT ALL before merging into another lane.

6) 16 year olds. They think their cars are indestructible and that they're race car drivers.

7) TAILGATERS! OMG!!! My sister refuses to stop tailgating, so I won't be in a car with her while she drives.

8) Tailgaters with road rage! <--- The ultimate bad driver. (Also my sister)

9) People who feather their brakes for no reason. They hit their brakes when they're doing a hair over the speed limit with NOBODY in front of them... AAAAAAHHHH!!!

10) People that pick their noses while they drive. It's nasty and I can't help but notice. Ick.

11) People that smoke, and throw their cigbutts out the window and it hits my car because I'm behind them.

12) People that don't let 18-wheelers in, and just sit next to them oblivious to the fact that the truck has had it's turn signals on for 2 minutes.

13) People that don't understand that lanes that end or are mandatory turns have a special break in the road lines. I mean, really. You've been driving HOW LONG? And you still haven't put this together?

14) People that don't wash their back window and I can't scan ahead through their windows.

15) Truck drivers that just HAVE to have the brightest freaking lights possible. Then they get stuck behind you in traffic and you're sitting there wishing your side mirrors would dim too.

16) People who forget their signals are on (likely because they don't use them enough) and drive for 30 minutes with them on. Then you come up on them, give them plenty of room to move in and they don't because you're supposed to know they got a memory like a sieve.

17) (I'm sure everyone hates this person) The guy that sits next to you in traffic with his windows down and his stereo cranked to 100% blasting the most god-aweful crap ever to ever grace the speakers of a stereo system that likely costs twice the value of the car. And rolling your windows up DOES NOT HELP!

18) Jerks that speed up in the lane next to you that you want to merge into just because you turned your turn signal on. (That schmuck should be lucky you even warn him that you're coming over, instead of trying to stop you from moving over.)

19) People that think if one car gets in front of them, they're going to notice a difference in the amount of time it takes for them to get to their destination.

20) People who txt on their phones while driving. Seriously, stop. Put your bluetooth on and freaking call them. It's cheaper and easier.

Sorry. I hate a LOT of drivers and think most should lose their license before others lose their life.

:werd: Drivers in my area are notorious for pulling this crap.

m4a1mustang 02-27-2009 05:57 AM

Cruising in the passing lane.

Over-aggressive drivers. Yesterday I was passed by a WRX going at least 60 in a 35, weaving in and out of traffic.

People who roll through stop signs.

People who don't use their turn signals.

Tailgaiting... especially if I'm doing the speed limit or above.

People who don't brush the snow off their car before they drive.

Greasy 02-27-2009 11:36 AM

Old people.... The ones that are completely oblivious to what is going on. They run red lights, don't go when it turns green, etc.

People that expect you to wait for them to turn left, just because they had a turn signal before. There are honestly at least 6 cars that go through after the signal ends!

I hate truckers who drive like ********. They tailgate you even when there is traffic ahead of you, etc. YOU'RE DRIVING A TRUCK, NOT A FERRARI.

Girls that drive like pubescent guys. Bitch, we all know you don't have that much testosterone. Stop putting on an act and drive like a normal human being.

chubbs 02-27-2009 11:40 AM

1. Oncoming traffic that doesn't get out of the way when I am overtaking a stationary vehicle in town, just because it's "their side of the road".

2. Old people.

3. Women*.

4. 'Drivers' who won't get out of my way, even when I'm flashing and honking at 130mph, right on their slowa** tails, just because they're jealous of me, or think that 130 is fast enough - Ha!

5. Pedestrians (except beautiful ones).

6. All Other vehicles.

7. Anyone else - especially people who won't race me off the lights ...and the ones who do.

8. People.

9. Policemen who pull me over for ridiculous reasons like 'speeding' just because they're jealous too.

10. People who pull up behind me at the lights, leap out of their cars, run up to me and smash their fists on my windscreens, shouting all the time for no reason. Why does everyone do that these days?

*men too.

every possible stupid thing happens... worst place ever

MaximumPwr 02-27-2009 05:07 PM

Houston is full of idiot(am I aloud to say that on here) drivers. Traffic the past few years has gotten almost to a stupifying level. Tail gaters, people do not even use blinkers in this city. Drivers e crazy. Automobiles makers can save some money and just leave off the blinker signal. haha

nogoodname 02-27-2009 05:11 PM

^^ we passed that level awhile ago.....lol

it's a free for all, you dont wanna know how i drive daily...you'll be surprised

Nobody in Los Angeles uses turn signals because if you do other drivers will try their hardest to prevent you from either changing lanes or from turning.

Yeah I hate this! I'm a smoker and it just pisses me off even seeing people smoke in their cars. Its like there is a little meter above their car and you can watch their resale value diminishing.

You can't wait in between driving to the grocery store for a lung snack?!

Crash 02-27-2009 06:02 PM

^^^ Agreed. Most of my friends have quit or don't smoke at all. And the ones that do aren't allowed to smoke in my car. Some of them aren't allowed in my car at all because they smell like smoke all the time.

frost 02-27-2009 06:16 PM

^ Amen to that. Just because you arent currently smoking doesnt mean the smell doesnt linger on your clothes and hair.
Nothing against the smokers per se, I enjoy the occasional cigar, but never in my vehicle or anyone else's because that shiz is hard to get out.

frost 02-27-2009 06:17 PM

Good thinking chubbs, that sums things up quite nicely.

Crash 02-27-2009 06:18 PM

^ My formula was a smoker's car before I got it. When pulled the center console apart to change the shifter, I found 2 gallon bags worth of cigarette butts under everything. It took a whole hour to clean it out. I was wondering why it smelled weird in the car when it got hot out. After that, the car smelled better, but it NEVER lost the smoker's smell.

frost 02-27-2009 06:23 PM

My 02 SS was the same. Every inch of that interior got a shampoo treatment (Twice!) and I never got the odor out.

Totally agree, living in Houston has just gotten painful to drive. I have started going into work late and staying later just to try to avoid some of the traffic.

nogoodname 02-27-2009 08:51 PM

today...well actually everyday i deal with ppl bad..or should i say crazy driving habits

just to add to fury, the potholes here are just out of this world...like you can see the dirt under the roads...lol........major suspension blows..lol

MightyBobo 02-28-2009 07:02 AM

So originally Im from Buffalo, NY. Drivers there aren't too horrible, but I left at only 19 years old, so I didn't have a TON of experience driving there. Then, I was stationed in Omaha, NE where there, I discovered the first group of people who drive UNDER the speed limit like a plague. God that was irritating. Rubber necking was horrible there, and the worst traffic jams happened when the Huskers were playing down in Lincoln, NE. But otherwise, it wasn't horrible.

Then, I got to the Baltimore/DC area. Ho-ly ****. I cant emphasize what a culture shock that was.

-No signaling lane changes.
-Speeding 20+ over the speed limit is NORMAL for EVERYONE.
-Weaving in and out of traffic is the norm (without signaling of course).
-Slamming on the brakes, pulling over onto the side of the road, and throwing it in reverse if you missed an exit is normal. Or just simply drive on the grass.
-Tailgating like a mofo left and right (even when you're doing 20 over already)

And how about parking?
-Big *** trucks/SUVs PURPOSEFULLY parking across 4 parking spots. I have a full size PU. Its not hard to park properly.
-Parking so close to your car, you KNOW they put their door against your car - its how HARD they hit it thats the question.
-Large vehicles parking in designated compact vehicle parking

I could go on - its pointless, though. Other than the amazing seafood and somewhat fun job, I'd give my left nut to go back to the quiet, safe area of Omaha again. Not to mention the car scene has far less ricers there.

Greg 02-28-2009 06:12 PM

People that tailgate you while your slowly going over speedbumps. :shakes head:

tranceformer 02-28-2009 10:45 PM

People that drive like sheep. It seems that some people don't fully understand the rule: "Slower traffic keep right".

Crash 03-01-2009 04:37 AM

Got new ones to add!

OMFG. I should lobby to make it legal to shoot and kill the following drivers on sight:

The drivers that are at the front of a protected left turn lane and do NOT pay any attention to the light. Then the light turns green for us all to turn, but we're stuck sitting there honking and the tard up front isn't going. Finally, the light turns yellow, he realizes he's about to miss the light, and goes; leaving us all at the light and the cars to turn left backup even more causing serious congestion in the roads and pissing off everyone who just missed that light.

The following dipsh!t should be beaten until they understand what they're doing wrong:

The driver in the front of the left had turn lane doesn't move up and PAST the cross walk, especially during heavy traffic, when the light turns green for our direction of traffic. Instead, it's like they're parked in the cross-walk screwing the rest of the drivers that wish to make a left, specifically the person 2nd in line. Typically, when the light turns yellow 2 cars may turn left. Instead, because the law states that you must be in front of the cross walk to turn left on a yellow, ONLY the front driver can turn leaving the 2nd person in the crosswalk with no way to back up, thus screwing the pedestrians as well.

I get tired of bad drivers, but INCONSIDERATE drivers should be beaten with a cactus, thrown into a dumpster, the dumpster should then be filled with cement, and then dropped into a vat of red-hot molten metal.

I can't agree with this more...

Greasy 03-02-2009 12:16 AM

I don't know if this has been mentioned...
But I hate people that turn left straight out of the lane, ignoring the middle turning lane thing. In the past few days I have had a bunch of people in front of me do this. Its not even like it was a last minute decision, most of them had their turn signals on well in advance.

Crash 03-02-2009 04:37 AM

^^^ Yep. Almost got hit by one of those douche bags. They're not on my list because natural selection will inevitably weed them out.

intrigue 10-23-2011 08:09 PM

The one thing that really irritates me is when someone pulls out right in front of me, only to go 5 or 10 mph under the limit, and there are absolutely NO cars behind me (they could have waited three seconds for me to pass and gone as slow as they wanted).

This happens to me quite often on my way to work. I typically beat the morning rush, so I'll be the only car on a particular road (one lane each way). There is a traffic light, and any car coming up to that light will gun it around that corner to get in front of me (to the point that I have to hit the brakes to avoid rear-ending them) and they end up going 35mph (it's a 45mph zone).

It's incredibly irritating and I've started putting the beams on until they GTFO of my way or speed up.

Also, people who sit 2 car lengths behind sensor lights. People, they've been around for decades, and your car needs to be over the sensor to trip the light. Let's move up. Thanks :)

joshs09slvrZ 10-23-2011 08:33 PM

I can't stand drivers who sit in the left land and refuse to move over. The left lane is meant for faster drivers. If I want to drive 80 in a 70 on the interstate, then get out of my way. Yes, I will tailgate you and flash my lights; I don't understand how anyone would want someone behind them doing that...just get out of the person's way so I can go on by you. Don't make me (or any other driver) pass you on the right.

I also hate how in rush hour traffic (either in the morning or afternoon) everyone decides that the speed limit doesn't apply to them. If it says 50...drive at least 50; 55 is also OK too, but whatever you do, don't drive 45.

Lastly, in three lanes of traffic, everyone driving the exact same speed and you can't get around any of them. All you can see in front of them is open road but yet you're stuck behind them. Usually they're driving 5 below the speed limit or right on the speed limit. Yes, I understand that the speed limit is the fastest you should drive legally, but let's be honest, most drive 5-10 over.

There's some dipsh!t I sometimes get stuck behind on the highway on the way to work. Old fart likes to go 55mph on I95 - most do atleast 65 mph. He needs to go save gas somewhere else.

This was my immediate thought. I HATE the drivers who just pay no attention whatsoever. Can't they see the ******* signs?

Also, in heavy stop/go traffic, the people who skip the line either by going off the side or in an exiting lane (driving all the way up to the exit before merging). This just slows the whole line down

The Dimer 10-23-2011 09:55 PM

I agree with pretty much everything said here. Also, semi drivers that try to control traffic or change lanes when they can clearly see you coming up in the passing lane.

urdeliveryguy 10-23-2011 10:44 PM

this thread made me cry from laughing. i drive all day long and there are 3 things i see everyday that really get me pissed.

1) people who race through a changing light to beat out the light at the last second. happens alot.. and they nearly kill themselves and others trying to get across, leaving the motorists trapped in the intersection trying to turn left.

and i don't know if this happens everywhere but around here 100% of the time.
2) while trying to merge onto the highway people who speed up and cut u out from merging / block u and run u onto the shoulder. even though ur like 3 car lengths in front of them. this happens more to me in the z than it ever did in my maxima.

3) people who don't let u out of a street during traffic. i was in my ups truck trying to make a left (this is why we don't make left turns) for like 15 min. lots of people where laughing this day as i was yelling at the girl on her cell phone blocking me from exiting. all i wanted to do was cross the street, did u really not see me?

oops i guess i have 4 things.
4) people who purposely block the people merging by riding the middle of the line blocking 2 lanes. seems like every time i see this it's a Delaware license plate. just sayin.

thetaste 10-24-2011 08:53 AM

This thread is going to get long.

All of it boils down to one thing.

People not paying attention.

Ok so maybe two things...

Not giving a crap about anyone else but themselves.

toxik 10-24-2011 09:34 AM

driving habits that piss me off? easy, female driving habits.

I really hate when drivers are not assessing the driving situations around them, they are just driving in their tunnel vision and have no idea what to anticipate based on the other cars around them. This one may be tough to explain but it always gets on my nerves more than anything. I hate when you're driving down a 2 way street with 2 solid lines down the middle, there's a double parked car in your lane, you go closer to the 2 solid lines to pass it, there's a car going the other way that can easily move a little to their right so you dont have to pass so close to each other, but NO they still keep going in their straight line make the passing of the double parked vehicle a tight squeeze.

Nismoracer 10-25-2011 10:53 AM

Ppl who ride my *** or park too close at a light or parking light.
