So red, if 27.5k mi is nothing to worry about on stock sport brake pads/rotors/fluid... Where should I actually be when thinking about swapping?

you could take a look at your pads...it is going to depend a lot on your driving.

you will hear them long before you have brake wear though.

The only time I've ever heard anything is a few times on cold mornings when I back out of my parking spot, they squeal a tiny bit, but I attribute that to just them being cold... After they warm up, no noise at all.

it takes literally a few seconds to pull the pads off, you could take a look. on the other hand, they are cheap to replace.

Along with several other things, this I do not know how to do/what to look for aside from rotor scratches.

All part of not having a car dad or older brother/uncle to teach me, and no one close by who's into modding.

two pins to take the caliper off. take a look at the pads, see how worn they are.

Yeah, I'd need someone to show this to me so I make sure to remove the right bits, and replace them correctly Plus, "not allowed" to do that sort of MX in the parking area here, and I don't have a lift.

there are a ton of DIYs. you do not need a lift.

when I was young, I used to change my brake pads behind the costco on the spare tire jack. and those calipers were much more complex.

I know you don't Need one, but it would help for someone explaining it so I can see from all angles...

My spare jack is done from using it so many times already.

If you can't handle this, you shouldn't waste your time going back to school

LoL A DIY is nice, but not the same as someone with experience.

That looks really simple! If only the base brakes were that easy.
