Atl PD contacted me today giving me more info to come down to test. Woo. Basically told me they reviewed and approved my application and want me to send some documents so they can begin background checks. I'll have to go test too which is easy.

Sweet dude!! I am taking my vaca next year to allow me to go to the academy. I have an opportunity for a part time gig. I won't give up my full time job, but the part time deal will allow me to fly helicopter patrol. Good luck bro.

Lemers 05-19-2011 06:44 PM

Sounds great good luck. Will you have to attend an academy?

blue660r01 05-19-2011 06:50 PM

Lemers 05-19-2011 06:51 PM

Cottleville in MO. I fly for a living right now. Paid too much to do LE full time.

blue660r01 05-19-2011 07:00 PM

Yeah I think your pay is based of a $34,000 salary while in the academy. Thats not really bad considering its VERY cheap to live in the south. If I get in I would start at $42,1xx since I will have my 4 year degree. Its possible to be even more depending on what their contract is like. If they have new pay negotiations hell it could be $45k+. Never know how things work out. I just have to get all my papers together, mail them in, and then book a trip down to test which I will call ahead of time to set a date. Written testing isn't an issue and neither is their pre physical agility check it lol

Yes, you will be required to pass a pre-employment physical agility test during the initial background process which includes:

20 military style push-ups in one minute
25 sit-ups in one minute
12" step in in five minutes

blue660r01 05-19-2011 07:01 PM

Pushups and situps aren't an issue at all. IDK WTF a 12" step in is though. Is that the thing where you have to jump to each side of a line?

Sorry blue, I forgot about this thread and just now went back and read this. Good luck with everything.

Naw, I fly jets. I have about 6500 hours in fixed wing. But I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army and have about 80 hours helo time. I can transition very easily.

blue660r01 05-20-2011 12:27 AM

Ah thats cool. When I was going to join the Army I fell 2pts short on my ASVAB (you know how it works, not overall but for GT and one other I believe I needed a 112) for WOFT and they screwed me. So then they wanted me to go 18x or do AH-64 repair this way with repairman I could meet officers and get recommendations. I chose not to go because I still wouldnt be guaranteed a try.

That sucks. I had a flight slot, but then Clinton had all of the cutbacks and my unit got axed. They said I could stay in at the time (I was in the Reserves by this point, but I was active duty reserve where by I worked there everyday), but I had to drive 200 miles or move to where the new unit was. Not to mention my flight slot was in the 64 but would have been changed to the Chinook (mobile home with rotors), NO THANKS.
