If you can move networks look at the Droid Incredible (HTC), top notch and stacks up (if not better) than the new iPhone that is not out.
On the use of iTunes, it is here nor there, you either love or hate the program, you all know my stance on it.

I can switch networks, since my contract is up, but am in no real hurry, since my 1G iPhone is still tolerable to a point.

NOPE, they have the Droid. This has already been discussed here, AT&T has the contract back! ;)

Ouch, well I have already seen pics of the new one looks pretty nice and can not wait to get my hands on it. After all I am due for a upgrade from verizon, just going to wait it out.

Eh, it happens, and I doubt Apple really cares that much. They already remote wiped the device so no one can even boot it and now they requested it be returned so they will be getting it back.

You kidding? Their iPhone reveal event is ruined; of course they care. I feel sorry for the guy, but won't be surprised if this story has a tragic end.

Ummm, this is not a new product it is just them updating the product. Yes it is a new design and some nice new features (both to Apple), but Apple I can bet Apple does not care enough to do anything to do.
You have to realize, this happens a lot more than people realize within the tech industry. You should see the amount of items that get found from other companies from three months to a full year before the company wants anyone to see it. Also, this design was shown in January already, this was just a confirmation of what we already knew.

Apple wants it back, duh, but the care level I would say is not enough for them to be pulling out any big guns.
