Had a great time @ Mid Atlantic Grand Prix 01.20.09

Okay, so me, onethreefive, and alefcole were sitting around talking about what we can do in this freezing weather. Then alefcole decided why not go to indoor carting? well, can't say NO to that. So, Me, onethreefive, alefcole, and another friend of ours name Joe, we all head down to Delaware to Mid Atlantic Grand Prix. It's the areas only good indoor karting facility. We had a really good time there on Tuesday. When you become member, they give you 20 laps free. Then you can buy endurance races (40 laps) for $20 each.

So, we start out doing the 20 laps as a warm up. As smooth as the pavement was, the carts were not sliding at all. They had REALLY sticky tires on them.

2nd run, 40 laps endurance, was courtesy of alefcole. Thanks doc :tiphat:. Only problem we faced was that the indoor wasn't heated properly. So, our hands went completely numb after like 30 laps. :icon17:

Then, we were going to come home but it was addicting. We ended up doing another 40 laps to finish our night. Onethreefive took some video of us karting around.

Overall it was a great atmosphere. Track was very safe and well designed. If you live in South Jersy/Philly area, you def. have to check this place out.

Pricing

25 to become member and 18 for each race (40 laps). Also, they have specials on everyday of the week. (i.e. monday, unlimited endurance races $50! :excited:)

G in ny 01-24-2009 01:19 AM

wow prices are pretty good I might go there one day

smurfblu13 01-25-2009 01:55 AM

Mid Atlantic Grand Prix FTW! This place is so sick I live really close by and there is nothing better than going in the winter and as your racing not really being aware that you hands are 100% numb until your finished and cant barely bend your fingers. This is a pretty fun track I've only been on one other with these types of karts. But for whoever can make it there highly recommended.

After 30+ laps, my hands went completely numb. We didn't knew it will be a cold in there. We thought indoor = heated. Next time, we are def bringing gloves.

smurfblu13 01-25-2009 10:44 AM

Haha exactly but i think the roof is cut open or something so all the gasses can escape and we don't die. Gloves def help, what was your best time?

alefcole 01-27-2009 07:14 PM

May be we should have another meeting at the track with some philly, delaware and Jersey members. :driving:

oh man, I think I'm right around there as well. Would have to look back at a time sheet. I think the time for the super carts is under 22 seconds, if that is right then I'm running right around there cause I keep flirting with being able to do the super carts, but I just can't break it. I think I'm headed there this thurs. so I'll be sure to report back.

blue660r01 11-17-2009 01:18 AM

Try out GPNY

smurfblu13 11-17-2009 01:20 AM

That's on the agenda at some point too. Hopefully sometime this winter since I couldn't make it up during the summer.

Def man, show us your times. Did you try out the NJ Motorsports? If you're running low to even 22s, then you have GOT to check out the NJ Motorsports Park Karting (they are officially closed for the season until end of spring). You're going to get addicted to this place. After drivng at NJ Motorsports all summer, the Mid Atlantic wasn't as thrilled as we felt 1st time. But it's not bad for the winter season.

hell yea, as long as you got the proper line and hitting apexes you can own. keeping speed through corners is the single most important part, and the easiest way to own people.

haha nice. I want to drive a shifter kart soooo bad. Heel-toeing through a corner in a go kart would be so bad *** lol

blue660r01 11-17-2009 01:37 AM

haha word. Man I am the dirtiest kart driver. I seriously LOVE sending people into walls. Crashing people and laughing about it > getting the best times. Even tho I could rape people anyways haha

In Jerz a few yrs back me and my friend tag teamed this kart with 2 girls and sent them spinning into a wall LMAO. We got shut down :(

smurfblu13 11-17-2009 01:41 AM

I know what you mean, quick story time lol

I was at the beach doing some pretty slow go karts, well this stupid kid is in front of me trying to make me spin out. He keeps hitting his rear wheels into my front in hopes of doing what I do not know. Well I start to get irritated so I tell him if he does it one more time I was going to put him into a wall. Well the little guy tries again. I had enough, so I promptly dived down toward the infield and then ganked the wheel right at this kid, nailed his rear wheels. He spun and hit the wall HARD. Turns out I hurt him, oops lol. His dad then tried to fight me, I chalk it up as a win in my book. I kinda felt bad for hurting him though.

:bowrofl: teaches him right for trying to take you out when he is in front!!!!

smurfblu13 11-17-2009 01:45 AM

that's what I was thinking, he just kept trying. Now as a side note these karts are mad slow, so I really don't think I hurt him. I think he was faking it to try to get me in trouble.

Here's a kick a$$ Karting video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y33tGrlpVP4

Wow, seems so fast in the carts when you're scraping on the ground.

AK370Z 06-22-2010 09:32 PM

So, this past Saturday I'm sure you didn't see me on the forum and the reason was I was having a good time Karting! :driving: We initially wanted to go to NJMP but they were completely sold out for the day  due to 12 hour big endurance racing on their regular track. Busy track day = busy karting day = no karting for us :( (we usually do arrive and drive. Slots are open to MiniGP (group of 8) first) Well, we decided to drive to New Castle, Delaware for karting. This is usually our winter karting place. It's indoor and karts are slightly slower than the NJMP ones. As usual, a lot of fun. I was especially excited since this is the first time I'm gonna try out the GO PRO HD on the helmet. Big thanks to ilive2win for a great mounting technique. I was able to move the camera 6 different ways with this mounting method. I recommend this method. Just for fun, I switched the cam to backward in our 2nd run :icon17:. Got a fun little footage from that. In our 3rd run, we broke all our previous lap times. Me, alefcole, onethreefive are pretty close. Here's our last run slip:

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s..._com/midGP.jpg

Video (run 1 and run 2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPa7m25tPiI

Btw, that dude in pink shirt would NOT let me pass :shakes head:. I bumped into him like twice and that's after me trying to brake (because you bump = you lose time/momentum). I think I lapped him on the run 3 (not on the video :D)

dlmartin81 06-22-2010 10:55 PM

Those karts really loose a lot of power on tight turns, don't they?

They don't lose the power but if you take the turn with too much speed, you'll just slide. When you slide = you lose time. Also, following the lines are very important (at least in this track). Did you see how I overtook those guys in turn? I have a better line than them. Basically in some turns I kick the brake once and then take the turn. Halfway into the turn I start to accelerate (slow in, first out works great for karting)
