Yeah but this time they are taking the right approach, I think. Trying to lock down the OS a bit, getting rid of any need for a start menu, etc.
There is plenty of hardware which can run this type of OS, but can Microsoft deliver what they are hyping in a clean (bug free) device?

bug free? not likely. even the apple iphone/ipod has its quirks and it only runs one app at a time.

will it be a vast improvement upon the past winmo platforms- definitely. utilizing the zune platform is a great idea and i think this will provide consumers a promising alternative.

i wanna get my hands on a win7 phone and play around with it:tup:

Well bug free in terms of hardware from my perspective:
~Nexus one - 3G reception
~Varios iPhones - battery, screen issues, etc.
~BB - crappy OS, but bad cases

The OS I can tweak myself almost with the help of the community, but hardware is very difficult to change.

i gotcha...
right now android and soon to be winmo7 have the edge when it comes to hardware(faster processor and higher res screen at least),which makes me curious as to what apple will do in june.

i hear the 3g issues with nexus one can be fixed with firmware upgrade.

i despise BB. i currently have one, can't stand it. its so slow. i recently read about RIM's CEO saying america is too bandwidth hungry and to support 1 iphone, its the equivalent of 5 BB's on the same network. the idiot should go to asia if he wants to see bandwidth hungry. we're so behind with the times in the states, its sad.

Yep, it is pretty sad how bad our bandwidth ratings our versus the rest of the world. I think we rank in the top 2 or 3 with tech but only top 15 or 20 for bandwidth speeds.
I almost wonder if Apple will do just a minor update, focus on the iPad & Firmware 4.0, on the Nexus One there is a firmware upgrade coming but no word on if it works or improves things.
I just got some new info on Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is hitting hardware makers hard with requirements: Windows Phone 7 Series: everything you ever wanted to know -- Engadget

* Large WVGA screen with a single aspect ratio (which means BlackBerry-style devices won't be readily available to begin with)
* Five specific hardware buttons required: Start, back, search (a dedicated Bing button), camera button, and power -- no more, no less
* Capacitive multitouch
* CPU and GPU requirements (beginning with Qualcomm's Snapdragon as the go-to processor)
* WiFi
* AGPS
* Accelerometer
* FM radio
* High resolution camera

It will be interesting to see how the extremely large XDA developer community takes to Phone 7.
