I was really upset that the meeting between Jacob and the "candidates" was so rushed and downplayed. I guess I understand that most of their questions, had they asked any, would have been answered by stuff we saw in the previous episode, but still... Such an important event in the life of "Lost", and the annointing of a new "Jacob" took 20 seconds.

As someone else said, it must not be as important as it seems and will probably be short lived.

And someone asked about why Jacob wanted a failsafe. If all the candidates died and the MIB started to get off the island, I'm guessing Widmore was instructed to perform some emergency "destroy the island" plan where Desmond would be the only one left, and then become the new "Jacob" by default.

yeah i cant help but think they did the jack=jacob thing early because that isnt the end game and something will change that before its over.. besides jack cut on his neck was back.... wonder what that is?

OK this article does not pertain much to lost, but I was looking up how a Powermat wirelessly charges a cell phone, Ipod or nintendo DS. I was reading it to find out that Michael Faraday discovered 'electromagnetic induction' which obviously brought up daniel faraday from lost with the whole EM incident. I also found out that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse actually knew about it and it was a obvious shoot out to him.

PowerMat is an exciting new wireless charging technology. It was first demonstrated in 2008 and early 2009 and is now available to buy for the home and office.

So what is PowerMat? It is a small device that uses wireless charging to charge your most important gadgets like cellphones (including the iPhone and Blackberry), video games (including the Nintendo DS), and iPod without you having to connect them to a charger or plug them into the wall. The PowerMat itself is, of course, plugged into the wall and connected to mains electricity by a wire, but from then on everything is wireless. You drop your device onto the PowerMat and it gets charged wirelessly, without you having to do anything.

So how does PowerMat wireless charging work?

The technology behind PowerMat is known as 'electromagnetic induction' (or just 'magnetic induction'). Michael Faraday is generally credited with the discovery of the induction phenomenon in 1831 though others were working in the same field at the time.

This electromagnetic induction is officially defined as "the production of voltage across a conductor situated in a changing magnetic field or a conductor moving through a stationary magnetic field" but that does not mean very much to most people. A better way to put it is that it is a means to transfer electrical power using a shared magnetic field.

Consider this arrangement:

1. Put electrical power into a coil of wire

2. This will produce a magnetic field around the coil that affects any metal within the field (as demonstrated by Faraday)

3. Change the field quickly over time and an electric current will be generated in the metal

So what is happening when a PowerMat is charging is that it is generating rapidly changing magnetic fields above the mat; these are converted by receivers on any devices on the mat into electrical power, and so these devices get charged. The magnetic fields and electrical currents are, of course, very small and so they can work on handheld gadgets without being a health risk to humans.

The same technology is used in a huge number of other devices and systems including generators, motors, transformers, some cookers, induction welding, and so on. Perhaps to most people the best known example is in rechargeable electric toothbrushes, where they are familiar with dropping a toothbrush into a 'dock' daily to keep it charged. However they may be unaware that similar systems are also operating in electric guitar pickups, video tape players, and computer graphics tablets.

PowerMat is currently the best known example of a wireless charger but this technology is developing rapidly and soon we will see it in many other applications and products. The PowerMat company itself is planning to extend the technology and feature it in kitchen counters, walls, and other surfaces around the home. One day this technology may be used everywhere and be invisible, it will be so commonplace. Finally we will be freed of the endless tangle of chargers and wires around the home.

you would never get this much straight explanation from the producers or the regular actors.. plus there is a sort of funny skit with jacob as an intern lol

you're right, kinda weak that it took 30 seconds.. but in that short time Jacob turned water into wine so that was kinda neat~

no it wasnt an alternate universe.. it was like purgatory or like a lobby outside of heaven or whatever you want to call it... everyone(well not the ghosts who were stuck on the island) went to it but the losties created theirs in a way so they could all find one another and cross over together.. jack was to last person to realize his actual life and death because he always had the most trouble with letting go.. so they were all waiting on him... who knows how far that was in the future as kate and sawyer and the rest probably lived full lives and died of old age and who knows how long hurley and ben ran the island for... but at somepoint everyone dies and they were in this afterlife all wanting to meet up..

..... and it had nothing to do with the island or the bomb or anything..like that life wasnt real david shepard never existed. he was a spiritual construct they created.. thats why things went better for them in it as they had subconsiously created it...

like for example eloise had died whenever and she had awoken up to remember her life and death but she didnt want to pass over because although she knew it wasnt a real world she could spend time with her son... ( who actually was her son not made up like david) thats why she didnt want desmond messing with things

and ben.. ben didnt feel he deserved to cross over yet and he still had get somethigs right with himself first... either with alex or whatever..

so yeah at the end of the day it wasnt a sideways or tangent universe or really anything related to the island..... it was plainly a religious/spiritial afterlife

now i would speculate that the light in the heart of the island was tied to this.. maybe it really did hold concepts of heaven and hell and the hell part really did bond to MIB.. i dunno

why desmond thought that it would take him there i dunno.... desmond was special and the EM test really did send him there for a while but if you remember when desmond flashed over there he wasnt aware he was just like everyone else... it was charlie who woke him up in the afterlife and started the chain of events

I liked it, sure it could have been much better, but i liked it. Sad to see it go. I wonder what spin-offs will come as a result.

MOVING ON... I heard that Richard may play Khan in Star Trek 2!!! COOL!

yup that is gonna be really great i think he can pull that off well!

also speaking of post lost... terry oquinn and michael emerson are pitching a show where they are competing hitmen living under cover with their familes in like the subburbs... its supposed to me like a lighter action comedy if it gets picked up...

I might have to buy all six seasons and gift it to my sis and b-n-l, I think they are currently watching Dr. Who.
