We would all go down to the lowest part of the building. Line up against a wall, then sit on the floor with our heads between our knees. Re: kids today, yeah it'd probably start off that way. You'd have a huge number of people wailing and whining, but after a little while, you might start to see a spine emerge in some of them. My Polish ex used to talk about that a lot. Since she was in Poland while it was still a communist country, she remembered standing in lines for things like rationed shoes, tp, other essentials. Said that many of the people there were unbelievably strong, solid, resourceful - you had to be to survive. Fast forward 30 years, and the next generation was comparatively weak and coddled.
Environment plays a huge part in our development. One of the greatest gifts my parents gave me was in allowing me to fail. They'd give me advice, but let me **** up.
