Almost finished one side of my vert. top fix. Just have to bolt down a strap behind the rear finisher. The other side is 1/4 the way done, so I SHOULD be done with this stupid project today. Between the P1606 and this current project, Ive been keeping the milage down on the Z...lol

Which mesh wifi did you go with? I bought the eero off of Amazon and it works well. It was pretty easy to set up too.

The Linksys Velop. Took longer to unpack than it did to actually set up..lol
The config on them is too basic. Im not too sure, but I need to figure out if it automatically switches betwen 2.4 and 5ghz. 2.4 is useless because Im surrounded by them.

Mine seems to automatically switch, but TBH, I couldn't tell unless I used a wifi analyzer. :icon14: It works, and keeps my fiancee from complaining that her iPhone won't get email in our bedroom. I put one node in our room. :rofl2:
Three is perfect for our 1500 sq ft house, one in the living room on top of the Google fiber box, one in the family room and one in the master bedroom.

The feature just allows you to add nodes around the coverage area to increase signal strength. Your device may then connect to multiple nodes at once to get maximum speed. They call it a mesh.

I made the 2.4 and 5ghz keys different and connected my laptop using the 5ghz key. A little annoying that I cant just disable the 2.4

My apartment is tiny, and I still found mesh very beneficial.
Call up Asus and ask them which nodes you can use with your router. Might have to use the same router as you have now....but im sure they have a cheaper path to mesh :excited:

Yeah... that describes virtually every project I've ever done. I cringe when my wife comes up with an idea once I'm halfway through.

2pk of their aimesh nodes is 399.

i'm good without them.

internet into my house is 985mbps

wifi runs around 250-400mbps depending on what server i get when testing.

xbox is hardwired for full speed.

250-400 is kinda low for a tri band router with your subscription. The 2.4ghz on your router is capable of 1000Mbps according to asus, so the 2x 5ghz signals should be much faster. If you can go into your settings, try turning off QOS.

look, theres about 10 millions settings and whatnot in a phone app for the router........its been a year i havent messed with it lol

it works and my xbox is hardwired so when downloading a game or update during heavy traffic times like right at release it still pulls 300mbps+ which is insane compared to other friends on xbox.

i have hit 900mbps on a download but not at like a big title relase window timeframe. no matter what connection you have youre still reliant on xbox's servers.

i did that for a week then said 300-400 is more than most businesses have so i cant be mad lol

mainly i only care about xbox speed which is great but what's annoying is playing call of duty and seeing it go from "looking for match <15ms ping".......then "looking for match <25ms ping".........until i finally get a game with these peasants in a lobby a 48ms ping and higher

like why do i even have good internet when i get punished trying to use it?

When I first upgraded my service to 100Mbps, I was pissed that I was only getting ~30Mbps on my laptop. Then I upgraded to dual band, but the signal kept dropping. Had to live with that for a couple years until this past weekend...lol :shakes head:

What device are you running the speed test on and what band 2.4ghz or 5ghz? Bored at work right now and I love troubleshooting computer stuff if you want help diagnosing it.

ookla speed test app. iphone 6 think it's on my 2.4 band

hence why i assume thats part of why it isnt passing the 300 mark.

Yeah running it on 2.4ghz will bottleneck it. Switch to 5ghz and you should see your speeds improve a lot at the cost of signal strength.
