Between covid-19 and riotfest-20 people are getting a little twitchy. Civil Defense sirens wound up for their monthly test and people legit started running for their homes.

:hello:

I'z up. :D

Another fine wet morning. :icon14:

Before going to work. After to stop in and vote.

Rusty 06-02-2020 10:20 AM

Need a tail pipe for the motorhome. Called the local Frieghtliner service center. They said that they don't make it. :icon14: But that Fleetwood makes it. Called Fleetwood. They said that Freightliner made the chassis, and that they supplied the tailpipe. :icon14: They gave me the number for Freightliner RV Div. Called that number. Talked to someone else. They said that Fleetwood makes the tail pipe. And to call them back. :icon14:

Called a couple of shops around here. No one bends that diameter of pipe. So I'm going to order a straight piece and 2-45deg elbows and make it myself.

Pulled out the cordless hammer drill (drill only mode!) to go at some scratches on my headlights at lunch today. It was more humorous than effective :icon17:

But I got things pretty much buttoned up for Kevin. Need to finish some stuff up here at the office. Sometime after 3 pm I'm going to stop by to visit my niece for a bit and then I will head home and call the tow truck. The last thing to do is mount the front wheels while I wait for the truck

Yeah it might get kinda hairy from what I hear. Electric can go out but not the interwebz! I want to work from home and not go into the office amidst the storm.

Wrenches are a ways off for me. Too many different sets that I'll buy all at once lol :shakes head:

I need a crow's feet for the LH engine mount. Gonna let Kevin handle that.

Pintsize725 06-02-2020 02:02 PM

welp, finally sold my Tesla stock. When it drops again (because Elon can't keep his mouth shut), I'll buy again lol.

I try to pick up a set here or there or when a job necessitates it. Helps lessen the sting.

My problem is I don't find that out until I'm in the middle of the job. And I don't like that. If I know ahead of time what I'll need - I make the decision to buy one-time use HF tool or a proper set for future use as well. The one-time use tools are fewer and farther between now.

A complete set of metric wrenches 10mm-19mm will cover most of the things you'll encounter on our cars. The smaller metrics (9mm & below) not as often.

Best advice: Buy a BIG tool box. If you look at one and say "That's big enough", go the next size or two larger. I started with a 5 drawer Craftsman box and now have a 6' long, triple bank Snap-on box... and now I need more space.... :eekdance:

I have a few sets of misc wrenches. But most are cheap Pittsburgh (HF brand) :ugh2:

I have a 3 tiered stacking Craftsman tool box - 22 inches wide.

My next tool box purchase will be a bottom cabinet 56 inch wide box - that's probably all I need. Pretty much anything beyond that is going to be more mobile carts or a separate vertical storage cabinet.

That Craftsman set was what I traded in for a little larger Snap-on box, that got traded in on my current one. I should have bought the upper box that goes on the triple bank lower I have, then gotten the end cab that is as tall as both boxes. I just didn't have enough $$$ for the top box.

I have a 56" right now too and while it is filling up a lot of space is regained by storing power tools and other large, bulky stuff in cabinets or hang on the wall.

I'm thinking of getting the New Age cabinets like Spoiler has and putting them on one wall of my garage. I can cover almost the entire wall with I think it's 20 pieces, for about $3000. I'll have to reorient the Snap-on box to a different wall, but I can move a bunch of power tools off of a rickety wooden shelf into something sturdy. I do need to sell my pair of 18s w/Blizzaks sometime soon. :eekdance:

Hit up the sales rep on GarageJournal! he gives really good pricing on those cabinets. I cant think of his name but if you search their forum it should turn up his name.

Took boxes are like garages. They are never big enough. :shakes head:

Totally agree on getting a huge box. I'm thinking of going 56" when I upgrade and keep the triple stacked 24" craftsman for specialty stuff or overflow.

Well, I called for a tow like I said. It was over an hour before they called me back. Said it would be 10 min. After 30 more min I had to call and cancel it. Didn't want to bug the shop after about 5:30. Going to schedule one for first thing in the morning.
