My dad spent 38 years with Republic Steel. Mine foreman, and retiring as mine superintendent. He retired at the age of 59.5. Only because he had a heart attack. Think he would have worked until age 65. He died at the age of 69. One month before his 70th b'day.

A little bit of both I suppose. The most I've lasted at an employer was about 5 years, and was with Kraft-Heinz. This was during the great recession, and they were cutting left and right. I jumped ship to another company, but wasn't much better, but had job security.

I agree with the pension/401k aspect, and I also think that the newer generations, myself included, have this sense of entitlement. Took me a while to realize that good things come from hard work and nothing will be spoon-fed to me. Props to the earlier generations on being able to last 10, 20, 30+ years at one employer.

Geez, I can't imagine being with one employer for 38 years. I'm sure your dad worked his tail off, while also being exposed to severe working conditions. Props and respect!

Is anyone else waiting on their guvment stimulus check? I updated my direct deposit info last week and still no updates. And I guess they track how often you check the status, as I was locked out for 48 hours because I "exceeded the number of times logging in".

When i worked for Duke Energy. We had people with 45 years of service. We figured that these people started right out of high school. Finish school one day, and was working the next.
