Brake work went slowly yesterday - new SS lines, rotors and pads for KingZtx forum member. It was getting dark as we started bleeding the lines, and I must have missed some air bubbles still escaping since the brake pedal is a bit soft. KingZtx left his Z in the driveway over night, so we'll finish it up today.

Has anyone ever had a fuel pump fail when the tank was empty? Pump went out on a friend's Suburban recently. We considered dropping the tank and changing the pump ourselves until we realized the 40+ gallon tank was about 3/4 full. Decided it was well worth paying a real mechanic to do the job. :)

When I changed out my brakes, I didnt notice at first, but the reservoir cap threads were a little worn and he motive bleeder stripped the threads even more on my Z. Ended up having to gravity bleed. I had a ton of air bubbles on each wheel.

I had to change out the pump when the sending unit failed. Same boat, 1/2+ tank of gas. I dont trust myself with electrical and gas.. I supported the local mechanic that day.

You can get a 12volt transfer pump & pump the fuel into an empty 55gal barrel;if you have one of those handy :ugh2:
The transfer pumps are cheap

jchammond 03-01-2020 08:25 AM

How much money did you get out of that atm?[/QUOTE]

I haven’t opened it since I got home; but looking at specs, it weighs 450#

We thought about doing that but we'd have to buy a pump that would be safe with gas (or siphon it out) and I turned my drum into a plating/de-rusting tank last Summer (full of sodium carbonate solution at the moment). Between the two of us, we probably have enough small gas cans but decided it wasn't worth the trouble. 20-30 years ago, we would have gone ahead with the job but we're both getting old and lazy. :)
