If it's not the stub axle then I would assume maybe it's a failed snap ring? Quaife warranties their diffs for life, I wonder if it might not be a bad idea to send it to them and see if it's a warranty issue.

The stub in the middle is the one that gets replaced with the one on the right. The snap ring location is different between the two. It's easy to break a snap ring when you install the one stub.

If it were a broken snap ring would it be replaced with a nissan oem or is it a special quaife snap ring?

What's really strange though is that his car drives fine for a while and then the stub axle will just pop out. I guess that may come back to what you mentioned. The snap ring could have been damaged during installation. Maybe it's partially holding? Still makes me also wonder if the stub axle popped out prior to my accident.

Spoiler’s Rant Time
——————————-

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can now tell you what I’m NOT thankful for...

Yesterday I got up and looked in the mirror and my freakin mustache was gone...

No shid, after hanging in there for the last fuggin 45 days of radiation, the sum bidge falls off with only 5 days left to go...

Pretty sad, considering I had a mustache since I was in the 8th grade.

Yup, he and I have been a lot of fun places together over the years and now he’s gone... (Oh the stories we could tell... :p. ).

When we were younger, he and I would go out drinking and I certainly got him in some interesting situations. I never got the chance to tell him how much I appreciated him. I just know that when he and I were in the thick of things he always had my back. :shakes head: It will certainly be difficult to redo all the memories I had with him. I truly will never forget him

Here’s a picture of us when we younger. (Circa 1979) It is painful now just to look at how we were back then. :crying: He was so young and full of pizz and vinegar

Hopefully he will grow back in a few months. Maybe he will come back as a blonde as I always heard “blondes have more fun” anyhow.

Okay.. Rant over.... I guess I feel better

Could be. The only way to find out, is to take it apart.

When my first wife was going through chemo. She lost ALL body hair after the second chemo. She never had to shave again. RIP.

Yeah, Chemo is probably much worse all over.. Radiation is more localized. I have only lost an area of hair about 3” x 3” behind my left ear where the radiation beam must be passing over. Well that and now my mustache that has decided to bail on me... :ugh2:

When installed in a non base model, the passenger side stub axle has to be cut (modified). I found a thread on here where one guy was having problems with his modified passenger side stub axle popping out.

How do you guys think the car would react if the passenger side stub axle popped out at high speed and under boosted power?

On my Quaife unit for the base auto 3.357 diff (non vlsd-open) both of my stub shafts are identical :ugh2:

Well folks, other than Madwi, you guys get the news first. Pulling the trigger on the BP kit today. This will be my first experience with a boosted car, and I'm simultaneously excited and informed enough to be terrified. I've devoured the FI builds section religiously, picked Mad's brain relentlessly, and I guess I'm about as prepared as a newbie can get.

Wish me luck!
