Asked the MOD when they are going to turn on the A/C. He said in October. I said how are you going to explain 2 heat stroke victims to management. He said that he will dump our lifeless bodies down the compactor chute. :rofl2:

Any reason to order the extra bung on my test pipes? I'm not running AFR gauge or anything.

Well, shìt...

Lexus radiator neck broke off and was found inside the hose that blew. Knock 1 and 2 codes triggered.

New radiator as well as a new thermostat and gasket since it overheated. $1200 estimated cost. Considering DIYing it...

As long as the thermostat is easily accessible. On my Passport, its buried under the manifold inside a thermostat housing that had never seen the light of day since it left the factory. Had to remove almost every dang hose on that engine too. That was the most satisfying thermostat replacement ever..lol

JARblue 05-29-2019 12:44 PM

The engine is transverse mounted, so there should be tons of room once the shrouds are removed. Parts are looking to be less than $200 for everything

Have all of next week off, deciding whether to do one long-*** 7 day road trip to some roads in CO, AZ, and NM; alternatively, do two "day" (aka 18+ hours with the wheels turning) trips to WV, WI, or Louisiana to work the kinks out, then one overnighter to CO.

Haven't taken the Z out for a multi-day trip since last November. I had to cut that short on Day 1 when a truck spit a rock into my windshield in the Texas panhandle, and as the sun rose I had the unnerving experience of watching the crack grow as I drove...

:icon18: this guy... On these trips, I only get out of the car for gas, bio break, and to take sweet Z selfies. Had a bird eat my 350Z grille once in far NW Nebraska; I named it Tweety and kept on rolling. Best passenger I ever had. Real quiet though..

Id get the extra bung when ordering. You can always just take out the cap if you want to install a gauge. More pain in the *** later to get a bung welded on.

Thanks! I've had my eye set on US 191, the Devil's Highway, for some time now, but the last two attempts were busts.

I do have a two-week vacay coming in August and I'll be in Wyoming for half of that and driving wherever for the other half, so I might leave the West for then and concentrate more on what's east of the Mississippi River.

For your general fund of knowledge there are around 151 National Scenic Byways in 'Murica and I've driven over half of them... looking to crush the rest of the list in the next two or three years. :driving::usa:

It's a 2004 ES330. The thermostat is kinda deep but easy work getting there. Took about 10 minutes to get 60% of the way there. Need to put the car up on jack stands so I can drain the coolant (have to buy more stands - the Z is Bogarting them right now and I gave my extras away). Once the coolant is drained I can start removing the remaining hoses and get to the housing.

Need to figure out the best route for removing the radiator, but it looks like it's just a few bolts to remove the to bracket so I can slide the radiator and fan shroud up and out. I'll probably wait to do the remaining work until parts show up. New Denso radiator runs <$60 at Rock Auto :icon17:

That should be a good torture test for the 34 row oil cooler... if the tires don't melt off :rofl2: I DIY'd a CoolShirt system specifically for weather like that. If you make big blocks of ice to fill the cooler it lasts all day, and then re-freezes overnight. The feeling of ice-cold water running next to your skin on a hot-*** day in a hot-*** car may be the second-best feeling I've ever had :happydance:

Definitely can tell I’ve been resting better; as these 100* days haven’t bothered me as much this week :ugh2:

At $50 for both that definitely sounds like a good investment just in case... hell it's worth it just to not have to remove the TPs in the future to take them to get welded, much less the actual cost of welding.

Youre right. That would be a good test.

What we used to do to keep bottled water somewhat cool in the desert was get a sock, soak it in water (and keep it wet as the day goes on), and put the bottled water in the wet sock. Worked great!

I was in Missouri during the winter one year. The day was really nice. Sunny, no clouds in the sky. Decided to wash my car. I was in a Tshirt, shorts and flip flops. Had the radio on and the weather guy came on saying it was 30 degrees out. I had gotten used to -10 degrees for a few weeks and so the 30 degree weather felt like a heat wave to me. :excited:

What we used to do. Put a 6 pack of beer in the 5gal. jerry that was full of gas. The gas kept it cool.

The other thing we did was to chill the beer with a CO2 fire extinguisher.

lol... I never tried the fire extinguisher trick. Ill have to find one somewhere.

The best is sitting at the lake relaxing with a fishing line or two in the water, with beverages in the water staying cool...

You playing mad doctor with your pizza? 7 is neutral, 2 is acid, 10 is base or caustic. Sauces can be low as 3 ph. I image you want you dough to counter act the sauce. Is that what you are after? How are you measuring your pH?
