Got the winch mounted in the trailer yesterday. It was a bugger bear to get the right bolts since it was not a through bolt and had to be the perfect size. I had to waller under the trailer while my wife held the wench in place. I picked up my battery box and battery yesterday. The battery box took a while to find. All I need to do is wire it up. I have a couple of other things I have to get done today so it will have to wait until next weekend. The rain is messing everything up.

How many lbs is the winch? You need to run the biggest power cable from the battery to the winch. You'll be surprised at how hot those power cable get. Warn Winch makes some power cable kits.

I've smoked the power cable on my 15,000 lb winch a couple of times and stalled the winch too.

bunk 04-14-2019 03:04 PM

I need a bigger hammer...

LOL, It's a Janky winch.. 5000lbs. Power cables came with it. No worries on that part. I won't be pulling anything out of a mud hole, etc. It will just have to come up some ramps. That shouldn't be an issue.

bunk 04-14-2019 03:05 PM

I swear I'm gonna look like popeye after this

He installed the diff bushing from the rear, instead of the front of the sub-frame. So he doesn't have to much room the swing.

Im trying to back out the bushing.. swinging from the front. It's probably a burr on the front lip that i missed because it wasnt going in no matter what I did.

bunk 04-14-2019 03:14 PM

Now its not backing out either..lol

Chit, that's a mid tuner. Fine tuner - 10oz. Mid tuner - 20oz. Course tuner - 30+oz. Small BFH - short handle 10lbs. BFH - 15lbs+

That burr will not let it reverse directions. Going backward will make the burr bigger.

Ah. Gotcha. Point of no return then. BFH and a 10-12" bolt or cut some all thread to length.

Rusty 04-14-2019 03:47 PM

I know all about burrs. I have ruined a few things over the years. Like a $80,000 coupling for a shaft. Coupling was a interference fit. Meaning the bore of the coupling was smaller then the diameter of the shaft it was going on. Shaft diameter 12.000". Bore diameter 11.980", 0.020" smaller. Have to heat the coupling up to expand the bore diameter. Heat it 600F to grow the bore to 12.010". Start to slide the coupling over the shaft. Coupling started to cool off. Picked up a burr about 90% of the way on. Stop the coupling dead in it's tracks. Hurried up and threw more heat to the coupling with 3 rose bud torches. Stuck! End up machining off the coupling and ordering a new coupling. What saved my bacon on that job. I had the foreman right there with me, giving me a hand.

What makes the diff bushing install hard is that it just like the above, but without the heat. And the sub-frame hole is not perfectly round either. It's somewhat egg shaped from the welding on the sub-frame.

Keep going; while pulling in with the bolt, occasionally smack the bushing side with a 5# hammer :ugh2:

I'm gonna keep chugging at forcing that B in. just picked up an entry level BFH, 32oz. If that doesnt work, I'll rent a 3# sliding hammer from autozone, if that shaft is 1/2", otherwise I'll have to find thor's hammer

Thought that hole was a tad larger? 9/16” or maybe 5/8” :ugh2:

jchammond 04-14-2019 06:29 PM

Measure that hole Bunk :wtf2:
You could potentially get a larger threaded rod & nut to work with :ugh2:

EW always argues anything over 5 1/2 is just too much.
