I was planning on throwing a $20 in your wedding envelope ....soooo you're already ahead :tiphat:

Madwi, if you were to take a snapshot of a VM (SQL) before a major upgrade, would you power it off to make sure no data is being written during the snapshot?

I would. Or maybe just suspend it while you take the snapshot.

Im being extra super very careful with this little gem. It has years of data with no real backup except for a syncback on their data that took forever to get done.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that! better you than me. If that is the case and the DB can be brought down without issue, I'd probably just turn off the VM and do the snapshot. I do not like those situations Sam I am. I do not like them on a boat or in a castle with a moat!

eastwest2300 02-28-2019 10:21 PM

Thats the thing, its a w2k3 server and if you remember, over time they take longer and longer to boot up. Its to the point where im saying prayers everytime it needs a reboot. They wanted to initially upgrade to 2019 :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2: but im like, um.. how about we try 2008 and work our way up?

make a 2019 Vm and see how it goes! :rofl2: I definitely agree with slowing the roll and moving up the food chain so to speak.

My wife and I go to the local theater and it’s like $14 for both of us, of course that’s before junk food. We usually get out for $30-35 total.

Good Friday Morning all. Getting ready to head out to the Circuit of the Americas for the BLANCPAIN GT WORLD CHALLENGE. It Free Day so that will make it even better and since the forecast for the races this weekend doesn't look good. So hope you all have a great day. I will post us some pictures this evening.

A little bit less snow here (about 3") but falling nicely when I left for work. Supposedly turning to rain in a little while.
