I have completely lived this life. Worked in construction with my dad for a long time, nice little family business, 2 year waiting list for work. It wasn't awesome money but it was a trade, I learned a set of skills, and working with my pops was great in that it taught me to work hard. Housing market crash came, wiped us out. We had 1 last series of projects which kept us going in fits and spurts until spring of 2011. By then, there was just nothing in our area. I was working a day or two a week if I was lucky. Jumped to highway construction. Had to drive upward of 100 miles per day without compensation, $11.45/hr, no bathroom breaks and stints up to 16 hours without food/water beyond what you carried on you. Not my favorite job (but I was glad to have it). I was renting a house with 2 of my brothers, and even in a poor area split 3 ways, we were barely making it.

Friend of the family got me into a local machine shop as a QC clerk. Not much of a pay increase, but I realized it was a marketable skill. Doors opened, and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and JC Hammond made a way for me. 50 weeks later, I was QA Manager. 3 years, running most of the shop. 5 years, new job at larger company. 8th year just started, Director of Quality. Been a wild ride, from poverty to comfort. Just be ready to work your butt off if the opportunity comes - and it may not be in the area or career field you expect. I could never have made it without good friends and good family - people are an amazing resource. I'm incredibly grateful.

Absolutely true. If you guys are going to meet up for some stuff, let me know, I might be able to take the trip to lend a hand. I have a cheapo transmission jack too if it's needed, and Madwi can probably ship us a flywheel holder.

madwi 02-16-2019 06:51 AM

Yep. I was working as an aerospace machinist when 9/11 happened. The shop I worked for in AZ kept 1 person in each department, the rest were let go. Honeywell, boeing, pratt & whitney, textron, Parker ect. all called and said to put the kebosh on ANY job currently in the works and dont plan on any of the stuff in the pipeline to come through! They didnt know how long planes were going to be grounded for or what was going happen in the future. Turned in well over 100 resumes to shops all over. Got a job machining pumps for the Oil Sands project in Canada at Weir Minerals North America in Madison Wi. When the bottom fell out of the high oil prices, they again cut the labor force down to bare bones. Said F this and went into IT.

The calipers come silver already, but textured. Im gonna spray some filler primer to smoothen it out some before the color.

I doubt we'd have enough time to do a whole clutch change over a single Saturday and half of a Sunday. I'll be more than happy just learning how to measuring and cut the hood followed by swapping calipers.

Do the brackets need to be painted? I am going to also test out your purchase method for these and will attempt to paint them myself.

No, I think the pics JC posted were base brakes. Where they mount though, you cant see.

So after my CPU sells on Ebay, i'll have enough money to get the hood vents. hahah. I love clearing out old junk.

Question. Should I get all 3 pieces or just the side vents? i prefer the look of just the side vents.

bunk 02-16-2019 11:13 AM

I hate looking at Baronsmokes build thread... Makes me want more stuff...

Played with the cars exhaust today and it is almost lined up perfectly. That is a big relief.

If you can get the center separately for not much of a difference in price as all three, just get the sides, then the center if you so choose in the future?
