i laugh and say why? i make more when i go home and work in the garage than OT here.

Yesterday was the most boring day I've had in weeks. Of course that was also the day the VP of my division scheduled a conference call with a customer on the west coast, and needed me to stick around to support his call... Looks like today is shaping up to be every bit as interesting.

Had co-worker say that to the Op Manager one time. The Op Manager told him to go home. Thought he was joking. The Op Manager was dead serious. His over time for the rest of year was cut.

You guys are snow flakes when it comes to work. You guys should work in some hell hole. You should be happy where you are at for the most part. Because it can be a lot worse. You guys never worked in the early 80's.

I never asked my facilities crew to work very much overtime, but on this one occasion I had a contract job that needed completing and I was supposed to supply them with help. My two people decided they could not work overtime even though me and another executive were assisting with the project. Well I fired them both the next day!:gtfo2:

Worked in construction for 14 years, started when I was 12. Current job is incredibly cushy by comparison. I realized I was paid a lot more for my brain than I was for my physical efforts, and treated better too.

Very happy where I am, and actually whenever I get annoyed, it's typically because I don't have enough to work on, not because I have too much.

Learned that lesson early on, in the job that catapulted me into the position I now occupy. If the people in power were going to be in the office, I was going to be in the office.

I had a boss that turned out to be a good friend of mine. At the time I was working in Oakland, and he was working out of Long Beach. Every now and then, he would call me and ask how things were going that day. If I told him it was slow, nothing to do, he would tell me to just leave early, but be on the ball if I got a call. He would take the flak if we screwed up. Great boss. But you can bet that if he called any of us at 2 AM to be onsite or on a call, we were Johnny on the Spot.

Some years later, I transfer to socal. I think my previous boss had a talk with the new guy. Told him that whatever he needed done, we would get it done before he knew what happened....so long as he wasnt a d1ck to us. We used to have texas holdem tournaments in the office and since the new bosses office was right by the front door, and you couldnt see us behind the cubicle partitions, he would alert us with a code word to look busy if an important person, or user came in our office...so, it wasnt uncommon for our whole department to have 10 hours/wk/person of OT or a ton of after hours calls.
