it was a $375 lesson... it could have been a lot worse.

They all have there inherent nuances and as Rusty said there are now choices out there and they are all pretty good. I got to see the RJM SC in action and that thing is a beast. I kind of like the whipple look too lol.

I agree. They are all pretty good options now. FI is still the best option but it’s pricey.

In low gear, you knock the tires lose, but that’s the deal with any boosted kit. The platform doesn’t put low end power down that well.

You ha w to respect it cuz it’ll go sideways on you in a instant but it’s definitely manageable l.

My fiancee had to learn that lesson too... She insists on backing her Escape into the garage, even with my Z in the spot next to her. Well, it didn't go well at the house I was renting before I bought my current house. She took off the passenger side mirror. Well, it did stay on the car, just broke the housing and the mirror. I taped it back together for a bit before she bought a new mirror from Ford. $257 lesson, she now pulls into the garage.

sidenote: it may be an unpopular opinion but i finally got around to watching the video of kareem hunt's little spat and then the girl giving her story to the cops and his guys giving their stories........ehhh looks like a drunk starhumper and all i saw was he shoved her slightly, the other hit was him shoving a man who obviously wasnt an athlete and falls into the girl, and he pushed her with a mini kick to her butt.

also his guys told the cops the girl was harassing kareems gf. who knows if true.

if i owned an NFL team i'd pick him up lol

I would put my .02cts in all of these turbo post but the heck with it. It is too much to post. My only suggestion would be this. Save your money, don't get a kit only because it is cheaper or because you want it now. Take your time.

The other questions I would ask is what are you wanting to do? Road coarse, mountain driving, 1/2 mile, Drag strip, or just out having fun.

What do you not want? The Supra effect where it comes on hard up top. It is either on or off?

What I do already is mountain driving and out having fun. I'm looking to start doing more with road courses at some point in the near future.

I enjoy the car already. My 1 complaint with it is the torque curve feels relatively weak. For that reason, the idea of the BP single is incredibly appealing based on the descriptions I've read.

Before I do anything, I'll hopefully get a chance to ride in a car with a Stillen kit, and one with a BP kit. My goal is to have this wrapped up before this time next year, but I'm not actually in a rush, and I tend to read/plan extensively, with my great weakness being a lack of actual experience (I'm learning on myself, which can be an expensive lesson, since as you know from my build thread I didn't grow up doing any of this).

Also, definitely do not want something where I only get lots of power at the top of the power band. That really defeats the purpose.

madwi 12-03-2018 02:01 PM

While I am thinking about the subject, dont forget about soho's top mount single turbo.

Don't worry, I included it in my Excel graph of power delivery ;) That's also why I ruled them out. I don't like their power band at all.

That is what a single turbo is notorious for. That can be controlled by using a smaller single turbo but when it comes on, it comes on hard. A twin turbo kit is more controllable with the proper turbo sizing. I am not a supercharger person at all. The A2A Stillen modified kit has a major drawback. Air filter fitment and placement. The air filter is tiny and I do not recommend not running a filter. Just stupid. Your other options are the single turbo BP kit and the SOHO kit. For me the BP kit is out due to where the air filter is located under the car. That is just an accident waiting to happen by sucking water in the intake and hydro locking the engine. Which means bent rods or a rod snapping causing major engine damage if it is not caught in time. AAM is out due to poor design and horrible support. The way I see it you have 2 choices. SOHO's single turbo kit that is new or Fast Intentions TT kit. The RJM kit I am not going to talk about, I will just leave it at that.

This is my opinion. Not going to argue for or against. I even debated posting any of it. The Savannah, Ga
area is real bad about water being sucked up the intake and bending rods. It happens on stock vehicles all the time.
My 1990 300zxtt that I sold died to his problem. The car was totaled 4 months after I sold it.

Jayhovah 12-03-2018 03:14 PM

Time for my biannual check-in to this thread in order to soak up some cheap repz.

@JLarson - In your position I would go with the BP kit. Look at some of the Stillen/Topz SC threads and you'll see people have all kinds of annoyances with belt slip, SC unit reliability, mix'n'matching pulleys to get more boost, air filter placement... they just seem to have an abnormally high amount of little problems.

Also, if you're just going or a stock motor, 500hp 'safe' (as safe as a boost build can be, really) type of setup... why leave 50+whp† on the table in driving the SC when you could be pushing that out to the wheels instead?

BP kit, in it's current form, looks stupid easy to install. I'd bet I could do it on my own in a couple of weekends on jack stands, even if I am being my generally anal self about it.

Just my opinion - I have no personal experience with either kit but generally follow all the FI subforum threads and have personally gone through the DIY TT install wringer. I'd imagine any top-mount kit is going to be similarly difficult to a TT just by virtue of having to pull out the OEM exhaust manifolds and shoehorn in something much larger.

edit:
† - I pulled this number right out of my butt.

Anyone have any recommendations on good cotton boxer briefs? I am tired of blowing through American eagle junk every few months. They're the only ones I can find that are comfortable though. Not a fan of polyester or spandex. I feel like they slide on the waist to much. Tempted to try Duluth next.
