All depends on warranty. But RJM seems like the type to keep QC in check when doing something on this scale.

So if I order the ecutek tune stuff. After we install all these parts, will I have a base tune to deal with from Seb? I doubt i'll be able to get ahold of the guy on a sat/sun. Will the base tune and car survive 600+ miles back home?

Call Seb and see if he has a moment to talk with ya. Best thing you could do. I'd rather have the person that is tuning your car answer those questions vs. me.

Leingod 04-05-2018 12:53 PM

Called and left Seb a message. I could hear him dyno'ing in the background. hahahaha. Hopefully have a better understanding of what to do by the end of the week.

I did intakes, intake upgrades, ported throttle bodies, ported upper mani, long tube headers and catback all prior to getting a tune, and I was fine. Now granted, I did them all one at a time, and I gave my car time to adjust (about 100 miles) to each piece without going WOT. I also didn't go WOT at all after long tubes until I had my tune. But yeah, since you're doing half as much, I expect you'll be fine running a few days untuned.

I'm going to see what Seb says. If he thinks driving back untuned is better, then I will just do that and work with him throughout the week to get it tuned while home.

Or we see if he can send me a quick base tune after we do everything for the ride back home. Maybe even see if I can data log for him quickly while making the drive.

Leingod 04-05-2018 01:13 PM

Btw. How is launch control? Is it as fun as it sounds?

It is one giant button to start the logging and hit it again to stop. You could set the parameters up on the laptop before the drive home and have the GF just hit start when you are cruising, wot, ect. Send it to Seb when you get home and then upload the tune he sends back ect ect.

Yea. It's easy enough. I just want to make sure no matter which route we take, the car isn't going to do something disastrous. I have never modded this much followed by driving that much.

The ecu can adjust for quite a lot. I am sure it will be fine but I hate to say that out loud lol.

The ECU can def handle a lot of outside variables. I wanna know if it can handle it for 10+ hours straight. lol

Give me a refresher on what you are planning on doing to the motor.

With what you are doing. You will be fine without a tune. You can even do WOT for shorts periods. The ECU can adjust for a lot. The tune is icing on the cake.

Not for me. The reality is I barely use it. As much as we all talk about wanting/needing faster cars, for your typical day I don't get to go WOT at all, much less have a spot on my drive where I can use launch control. That being said... you're going to love the throttle response after a tune. I may not be able to just go ripping down the road, but in those moments where I need to hit the pedal and take off, my vehicle obliges nicely.

Leingod 04-05-2018 02:11 PM

That makes me feel better at least. Won't break everything entirely. Still going to get e-tuned though for all the fun benefits it has. All I am aware of is better throttle response and launch control.

And flat foot shifting, if you're in a manual trans car. Again, same limitations though - you have to be flooring the gas pedal.

limitations for every day use, but still nice to have for those rare moments. I have honestly never FF shifted. Will be interesting.

You guys don't want anything to do with what comes out of that guy. He has been blowing motors and screwing customers for more than a decade.

Feel free to search google for issues with S&R Motorsports and VSR Motorsports..

the pedal? that RJM is different and is well known for a great product and fantastic customer service.

RJ Manufacturing (and whatever he calls it when he torches this particular company) is the one you want to avoid.

madwi 04-05-2018 02:37 PM

One heck of a price tag on that kit too. Id rather have a FI TT kit at that price point.

It's not even really complete... you still have to buy an intake for it.. and he refers to this as a "feature" and for some reason people are buying that.

That being said... if you're looking for an FI kit you can install yourself... I would bet money I could install one of the new BP kits with the oilless turbo in a weekend easily. Price is pretty nice too.
