Chain drives are pretty cheap nowadays. Would probably be worth it to just replace it.

I had a 16 year old chain drive liftmaster that was original to the house. It worked fine, just louder than I wanted in the bedroom above the garage. It was on sale so I just bit the bullet and got a new one.

Yep a Premium Chamberlaind with the extras is only $199 at HD so just going to pick one up. I pulled the big plastic guide off and could see what's going on, the gear sheared right off so there's no fixing it anyhow. Cheaper/Easier just to replace the whole shebang.

Bacon was on sale at Safeway this morning so bought 3lbs. Turned out to be really good bacon so going to go back for more and throw it in the freezer :D

Always wanted to try a screw drive, support to be silent. Always end up just sticking with chains though.

Yah screw drives were popular in locomotives..

Yeah. They're all cheaply made nowadays. I bet the Liftmaster I replaced would've gone another 16years if I didn't care about the noise. That was built much sturdier.

Don't do the screw. They end up being really loud unless they're well lubricated, my parents used to have two Genie screw drives and they were much louder than my chain.

Glad I never tried the Genies over the years then.

Picked up the 1/2 chain, good enough. Didn't even bother spending the extra $20 for the belt drive version that was on sale. Mostly because this way I can just change the opener itself and not have to get into a complete teardown/install.
