Edit* Why are YOU not running the bundles if it is past the demarc?

I wish it was that easy. The guy came and everything was good until he noticed we don't have a pull-string to run the fiber. I guess it's mandatory for verizon to run new lines and I have no idea who to ask about that sort of stuff. i've been googling all morning just understanding what a pull/mule line/string even is. haha.

We need Verizon to run new fiber from the demarc to our server room. Entrance point is in our electrical room about 500 feet away. This is all on their side. I guess they need to add new pairs to our existing platform.

First world problems:

Brand new 4K Samsung UN60KS8000 TV won't display my brand new 4K Sony STR-DN1070 Receiver. Apparently there is an ARC hardware compatibility issue. WTF ... it's not like I bought cheap knock-off brands :shakes head:

Perhaps one or thenther needs a firmware update?
ARC is typically cross compatible between brands. The only somewhat similar issue I've seen is screen mirroring not working on apple devices because of Samsung trying to stick it to the mac makers.

ARC even works between my NAD receiver and Samsung tv, which is more obscure than Sony by a long shot.

Git you one of those Emerson 4k boxes.

ChaseZ 11-29-2016 10:25 AM

Seb was kind enough to send me a map for the car with just the catback now. Still missing a ton of power of course, but at least have the throttle response and all that I've gotten so used to, so it's actually drivable for now!

Next tune from him over the winter will be a big change :D

Firmware was definitely my first thought. I was really starting to wonder about the ARC thing, too, since I found no indication in my research that there could be incompatibilities.

After speaking with both Sony and Samsung, I went back to Best Buy and had a chat with their staff. I decided to start with the easiest option, and just bought a second 4K HDMI cable to test it. Voila! Since I had to fit the new 4K cable through 3/4" smurf tubing I have already installed in the wall, I had to trim the head around the connector on one end. It looks like I must have compromised it during the trimming process. I will need to purchase and fish another longer cable through the wall later. Could have been easier, but definitely better than having to return either product.

If I remember right, the HDCP 2.2 for 4k is mandatory in every piece from source to the display. It is a form of DRM to guard against piracy. The HDMI cables need to be "high speed" to get the 4k content to show.

ChaseZ 11-29-2016 05:47 PM

This is likely a redundant question, but you are plugged in to the correct hdmi port on the back of the tv with the small arc label in it right?

HDCP 2.2 isn't necessarily required for all 4K sources at the moment from what I gathered. But as more of it becomes available, more of it will use the newer protection. That's one reason I went ahead and bought a new 4K receiver with the TV. And I definitely wanted some future-proofing when it comes to the in-wall cable (other cables can be easily swapped).

The cable in my wall was a 1.3b which is not capable of ARC, so I needed a new 1.4+ version.

I got everything working; it turned out to be the cable. I had to shave down the connector to get it through the tubing in the wall, so I'm going to have to eat the $70 I paid for it. I've already ordered a new cable with a narrow connector that should fit easily without modification.

Excellent, cost aside it's nice when it is something simple like that.
