Madwi talked up the RJI assembly to give a better window of engaugement. 1-2 can still be tricky at times.

the trick to smoothing out 1-2 shift is to engage 1st at a higher rpm from stand still, or let it slip longer. it's directly related how u modulate the throttle.

most often newb z drivers engage 1st gear too low rpm... then throttle up but then need to release throttle for 2nd and by dat time u got a mess of flywheel spin (inertia) to deal with.

kenchan 02-18-2016 08:38 PM

engage 1st from like 2k rpm (when the tach is horizontal) and count ichi-nee-san while u engage.

Sorry, what? My Si has an actual clutch pedal? I thought i was simply hulk smashing my wheel well anytime I wanted to shift. I love the Z having feeling and power behind every shift.

How was the Fits clutch? Did it carry any weight whatsoever? I can't even feel the Si's at times because it basically weighs less than a butterfly to engage.

kenchan 02-18-2016 08:39 PM

u'll be surprised how smoothly you accelerate from standstill, and how easy it is to setup for the 1-2 shift.

I know how to driver Kernchan haha. 1-2 2-3 don't kill me anymore. But having a smoother shift experience is always nice. I think jar got the assembly also.

the fit's clutch is light and engages a tad higher than my other 3 cars. but it's consistent. the issue with the honda tranny is the gates. grinds when cold.

i dont think u do cause my 1-2 shifts are smooth on the Z. and no other tools needed.

kenchan 02-18-2016 08:42 PM

WELL CONGRATULATIONS KENCHAN :gtfo2:

Grinds? Mine only does that upon startup on cold days. Sounds like metal on metal. Scared em at first. Then I remembered i owned a POS Si and stopped caring. 5th gear needs a nice smack at times to go into gear though.

kenchan 02-18-2016 08:43 PM

the wise will listen to the kenchan... cause i only speak from experience.

They're smooth for me also, but the engagement point just feels awkward. Idk, I guess it's just a personal preference thing. I'd prefer a smooth transition instead of an on/off switch at times.

When I first got the car, I was jerky as hell. Learned the engagement points and now all is smooth. I just don't care for the transition when engaging. Feels like an on and off switch.

kenchan 02-18-2016 08:47 PM

oh yah, i do use the voltage multiplier in my Z. so i do use tools. :ugh:

but dat wasnt for my shifting... more for throttle response.

yah, u have to go real slow at the sweet spot. but the good thing for me is dat after my fit is gone, all 3 of my cars engage low to the floor.
