*screeching voice* i'm in your closet............LET'S FIGHT!!!!

this sucks!

TamZ 03-18-2010 04:27 PM

I just got the Droid yesterday (coming from a BB curve) and I'm having some issues with it taking a while to do anything..sometimes it will tell me "no connection, retry" and when trying to access facebook, It seems like it won't let me view my actual profile. If I click on profile, it says "content empty", "an error has occurred while fetching data no socket" and "an error has occurred while fetching data null" Very frustrating...My daughter and I were up for renewal and so we did the buy one get one free thing-- Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake.

If anyone has experienced these errors, I would love to know how to fix them. I tried searching but nothing came up.

Thanks much!!!

Are you getting 3G then full bars in the top notification bar?
Have not seen that error, you might have gotten a bad phone, is your daughter having the same issue as your phone or is hers working fine?

When I was in Ventura today, the bars were full and it said 3G...sometimes it only has 1-2 bars, and then sometimes it will say 3G and sometimes it was say 1 cdmi? (I think that is what someone told me) For most facebook things, it *seems* to work..although I have to go fetch my notifications, it seems..with my BB, it just dinged and I clicked and read whatever was sent. This seems like more steps..which may just be ME on the learning curve... but when I go to the home page of the facebook app..If I click Profile, it just gives me those errors. Interestingly, I can see my info, photos, etc. Just the profile part doesn't work.

I wondered if maybe I am just not in a good 3G coverage area. I asked about that when I was in there and she said where I lived was fine. But sometimes, even when I am browsing through the market looking at the applications, I get that little circular icon and it says "loading...." and it takes 15-30 seconds to then show additional applications. Same goes for trying to get to a webpage. I was under the impression it was quite fast compared to the BB and it seems about the same or even slower so far. So I'm confused and a bit frustrated.

I'll have to ask her how hers did today, she isn't home from school yet. It's funny, I only got Facebook to keep tabs on her originally--now I use it quite a bit and it would be one of the apps I use the most, and its the one app that doesn't seem to work right on my phone. Figures.

3G is your faster data connection, 1x is the slower (more like dial-up) speed.
I normally have between 2-4 bars in Houston and things load fine for me so it does not sound like a network issue. A quick Google search and some people are reporting the same error messages starting yesterday. I unfortunately do not use Facebook very much, have many of the notifications turned off online so not sure how that changes the Android app, but a few I get pop up in the top bar and I just click and they send me to a page to pick what I want to do.

You might try uninstalling the app (it comes pre-loaded I believe), and re-downloading from the app store to see if that works.

Thank you for your quick help..I will look into figuring out how to do that. I've just been patiently waiting until my daughter gets home from school..she's more techy than I am and probably has this phone figured out in one day!

Off to google and see if I can figure this out!

Thanks again,

tamz, if you haven't yet, go to the market and look for TasKiller. i get that error from time to time but if i force the program to close it will reset when you open it again and clear the cache, or something along those lines. seems to work for me pretty well. also close any programs you are not using. the only ones i keep running constantly are weatherbug, lookout, facebook, gmail, messaging and settings. if i'm not using it, i close whatever else is open. this can help with those kinds of issues in my experience. if you continue to have a problem, you may want to take it back to verizon and talk to them about it. they may be able to clear some kind of memory that has a fault in it of some kind

I saw that in the app market..I will check that out. Oddly, I went back to the mall today over in Ventura and it started working correctly for awhile and it had full bars and said 3G...WOW..it was BLAZING FAST then..probably worked like it was supposed to. I'm back home now and I sent a comment to a friends facebook and it took 42 seconds (I timed it) to send the comment. I get the little circle that goes round and round and round FOREVER....that can't be right!? I must be in a bad area..yet she said its considered 3G.

Heading to get the taskiller app now! THANK YOU! :)

there's a free version and a paying version. the free one works just fine for what i use it for just so you know. and yea it really depends on your signal stregnth as to what it does, especially if it's fluctuating greatly. there's a bandwidth tester listed on the top of the last page that i downloaded, works like a champ to see what kind of speeds you are getting. if you are at home and have wifi setup, you should have your phone connected to the wifi link all the time anyway, it's a much faster connection than using 3G usually. though 3G is pretty fast if you have 2 bars or more from what i've seen

bump for info on 2.1... anyone know when it drops?

theDreamer 03-23-2010 08:18 AM

I have heard nothing since the last update, seems Verizon (and all networks) are really dropping the ball on these updates.
