Lucky me, I took a vacation day so I was here when it happened. I noticed the light was off on the security system and it said it was on battery power (it was plugged into the bottom receptacle of that outlet, the one that is not burned up).

The plug/outlet was hot as hell. You can't see it in the picture, but the slot for the prong on that outlet that appears very dark is actually a hole about 1/4" in diameter.

Name brand? Does the wiring look bad?

Davey 08-13-2015 08:30 AM

Yeah it's a name brand appliance.

The circuit breaker did not blow, and the outlet no longer works, so there's no point in what the wiring "looks like." :icon17:

Amazon refund: Requested. :ugh2:

Wow -- close call...

Next time can we have larger pictures though? I can barely see these.

should also make a claim for the wiring and the outlet repair bill. contact customer service chat or just call them. they should be able to get you more help than just a refund/replacement. tell them to accept the bill u will get from the electrician, get a tag/claim number.

Yeah, one of those freak occurrences... I decided to take a vacation day to finish a little project on one of my guitars, at about 7:45 AM.

My wife left at 8:20, and I came back to the computer for a few minutes, which is when I noticed the security panel was off. When I went downstairs to check, the humidifier was also off, and the plug looked weird, so I unplugged it and saw the receptacle.

Electrician is on the way. The fact that no breaker tripped is very odd. I'm not totally sure the appliance was at fault after looking into it a bit.

I'm going to see what the electrician says about the outlet before I jump to any more conclusions.

Though the appliance plug looks bad, the terminals are solidly affixed and there is no damage to the cord.
