To upgrade the GF's old Dell XPS rig to W7 or W8.1. Hmmm, decisions decisions. She'll be suckered into W10 either way. I just don't want her getting cunfuddled with W8.1.

How old is that XPS? How much memory?

2007ish i believe. Dual core. 4GB ram. It's old enough to suck at most things, but still good enough to run normal stuff.

I haven't even cracked it open yet. She was just going off of the specs she remembered. I'll bring it over to my desk and crack it open later. probably needs some new thermal paste, cleaning, etc. May shove a random better GPU in it so she can play AOE:II again. But if her specs are correct, it's solid enough to run W7 without much of an issue. hard part will be finding all the old drivers on Dell's shitastic site.
