I agree with you going custom - I've done that on my last few cars and have had great success. I still can't believe people are paying $400+ for 'short tails' when it would literally cost $50 and a pair of tips to create one at a shop.

Yea i agree custom exhaust would be way cheaper, but you never know what your exhaust will sound like until you hear it...
But yea i remember when exhaust systems back in the 90s or early 2000s were only a couple hundred dollars now its amazing the some exhaust systems are going for a few grand

literally $100 test pipes and top speed axle backs, if you want more power go with aam's nismo h and mid pipe replacements

No, no, no, no, no.. :shakes head:

If you want a throaty growl, listen to this (not sure how to embed):

ART Pipes, AAM Short Tails and CAI in this vid.

I've got a stock 2015 Nismo atm, but I just ordered ART Pipes, AAM Short Tails and AAM S-Line Midpipe last Friday.. should be here by this Thursday or Friday.

I'll post a vid after I've put everything on.. hopefully my lack of CAI won't leave me without a comparably deep tone.

Will sound great for sure that is going to be super loud tho. this is a vid of just me w intakes, aam short tails, and aam non resonated test pipes. don't mind my sister and her goon friends.i needed a camera person. I plan on uploading another with the S-line midpipe as well soon.

LoL I always get excited when I hear other folks' exhaust when it's loud but clean. I just hope my own setup doesn't turn out to be too brutal to live with eheheh. Oh well.. The wife has her own car and my parts are already on the way. Too late to care if she'll be able to cope with it or not haha

FWIW I installed my Invidia Gemini catback on Thursday and I love it

See my gf already hates my car, she's still a bit pissed I got rid of my 350z last may. She has yet to fall in love w the 370z. Your set up will be super crisp w the art pipes.... Do those have the cel fix though? That's one thing I can't deal w is lights on my dash

Deep Growly Exhaust

Yea they got a spot to insert the O2 sensor from the stock cats. Haven't really come across CEL complaints from folks running ART pipes.

can anyone tell me how intakes or intake manifolds can change the sound of a car or an exhaust?

and do HFC's change the note of an exhaust or just amplify it and make the same sound louder?

im probably going for a purchase of a borla exhaust in the next few weeks. i was going to get a berk but they are apparently out of production at the moment.

the 2 main things i am looking for is a somewhat oem look (otherwise i would get a FI order in tomorrow) and something deep and growly like the thread states. a bonus would be horsepower gain, but from what i have read on this site all exhausts are pretty close in that regard.

thanks for any help guys. it is much appreciated while i try to learn more about cars and especially 370's

Well, comparing how my car sounds relative to one with the same exhaust + Cold air intake, I can tell you CAI is going to give a noticeable increase in overall "growl" and a little more deepness, so Stillen G3s will be my next mod, then a tune finally.
The car I've been comparing to mine also has intake manifold as well, so I'm guess that is probably also subtly affecting growl/deepness, but I can't say from experience.

Cat-replacements of any sort will definitely increase the volume alot over CBE by itself. But if you want a deeper sound, I highly recommend the Motordyne ART pipes. My AAM setup already had a deep sound, but the resonated test pipes made it ever deeper and amplified the growl. But your neighbors might hate you when you start the car in the mornings, lol

Deep Growly Exhaust

Finally, some decent raw video.. forgive my horrible half-editing, lol.

Hard take-off at 1:00

Another thought.. On the hard take off, does that sound like rasp at all? Can't really make my mind up about it.. At 3k RPM, when the throaty growl vanishes and it just screams, I can't decide if the initial burst of sound is rasp, or just pure unbridled engine noise due to lack of muffler..? Or both?

Makes me consider maybe looking into a more reserved/refined rear section at times (times when I don't want to blow people's ear drums out just because I stretch the gears out a little bit), but then again, I fear I might loose some of that lovely low-end growl.
