Loud Exhaust Setup

I am trying to get a loud exhaust set-up, maybe with test pipes or something, not a full catback exhaust since I don't have the funds yet. But does anyone know a good way to make it really loud with a budget of around $500.

I plan on buying an AAM Short Tail Exhaust, what kind of test pipes would be good? And how much would it cost to install test pipes.

Tomei with test pipes

synolimit 12-24-2014 08:50 PM

A muffler shop could straight pipe it for couple hundred.

Short tails with test pipes is insanely loud.

Short tails and test pipes setup might not be something to dive into right off the bat.

Since you are on a budget, first go with the short tails. The short tails will cut into your $500 budget, especially if you get the titanium tips. They are easy to install, so no cost on your part.

I went with the titanium tips vice the polished tips since they look great with a PW Z.

Ok so, after the short tails, what should I plan on purchasing? I will evantually get my budget higher but I don't want to spend $800 on the rest of the AAM midpipe.

I first started with the short tails, then several weeks later decided to complete my catback and purchased the midpipe. Having the tails only I felt it didn't get the sound I wanted, plus, by having the full cat-back, it gave me the little extra HPs and a better sound. Sure, it's a lot to spend on little gain and sound, but it satisfied my needs.

If you are so set on sound - not too concerned on the loudness and rasp - then as another member has said.....go to a muffler shop and get them to straight pipe it for you. If you go this route and don't care for it later, then you're only out a couple hundred dollars. Then you can consider completing your catback by getting the midpipe.

I would also recommend getting the polished tips on the short tails. Not only will it save money, but these will look better on your black Z.

Just have a muffler shop weld something up. Why pay for something you'll never see and do you care if the exhuast out lasts the car? I'm sure they'll only carry mild steel coated but even that in 16 gauge will still last longer than I bet you own the car. If they can't install helmholtz resonators (which you'll need!!!) just save and buy the motordyne test pipes so you get them installed there. They are a must for rasp and drone in a catless system.

Shoot for a garageline midpipe exhaust for $300 if you're thinking short tails. You will have tons of volume still. If you go testpipes, I would recommend resonated. It will help with the terrible rasp and still scream.
