Fast Intentions CF Scratched :(
Well, I knew this was going to happen, but I had to get the carbon fiber cans because of the sound :rofl2:
Tony was right, the Exhaust does not sit any lower than the stock exhaust. Unfortunately, my car is lowered so it was inevitable to keep it unscratched/unscraped. Stupid Speed Bump :eekdance: Anyone with scratched CF cans? If so, how is your CF holding up? and/or what did you do to take care of it? Lastly, is the CF wrapped around Stainless Steel? What's underneath it? Overall, I'm happy with the exhaust. No complaints :rofl2: Right Can http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf2bfba10.png Left Can http://i879.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps39eef99f.png |
Sorry to hear that man, I know you just got them too. I also see that you're lowered on Eibach springs, and I'm lowering my car with swift, which according to the "lower springs comparisons" chart...Swift lowers the car a tad more than Eibach. The news for my FI exhaust is not good...hahhaha Guess I'll just have to be extra slow over a speed bump.

^^
Thanks bro. Even if it was Stainless Steel, I was going to scrape regardless. Just gotta be extra careful. I'm not bummed out because I expected it lol :rofl2: |
To my understanding the Carbon Fiber is not a wrapped piece over steel, its just carbon fiber. :tiphat:

If not, I'm really curious as to how much of CF actually wraps around the SS. What I mean is how far does the SS reaches behind the CF. Because looks like cf was bolted on the SS |
I am on swifts and CF FI exhaust for about a year, i have one nick of damage on the right can maybe the size of a tooth(lol my best example).
Dunno, but the only problem I have is that useless front chin spoiler scraping everything and everyone cringing when I pull out of my driveway or a shopping center haha! You should be in good shape. Also on 305/30/19 tires if anyone wondered(believe the height for the re 11 is like 26.3 inches or something like that in this size out back). I would double check the install and be careful! |
Thanks Faceglide! I shall put install my swifts and FI exhausts with confidence when I get them...hopefully soon, within a month! c'mon number 922! Also, I see you're located in San Jose, I'll have to keep my eyes out for a lowered Cherry Black Z!
|
Oh man...I'm on coilovers.. now im worried about ordering the cf ones. But where I live there's not many speed bumps
|
Wow, what a burn! The scratches look very minimal. You can buff the "white" out with a good polish. If you do not contribute to the scratches anymore, you should be more than fine.
As for the cans, they do not have stainless steel underneath them. The Carbon Fiber is the actual sleeve to the muffler. Speed bumps and dips are generally not the issue. It is a steep apex in a driveway that usually does it. Call me if you have any questions. Thanks, Tony |
If on coilovers, you can do 1.2" drop no problem. Any further and I would really stiffen the compression(or just stiffen the shock in general if not independent).
Totally agree. I believe my damage was from a very steep driveway(my house). There may have been 1 or 2 times where I did not properly angle out(running late to work lol!). |

I don't even worry about speed bumps.. random dips and bumps on these sh!tty SoCal freeways are what gets me LOL. |
I keep thinking about making some sort of shield for this very reason. Something small, half moon shaped, maybe painted black so you cant see it to cup the lower part of the cans. Just to help with small scratches like this. Obviously it would do no good if you hit something really hard.

There are some gnarly speedbumps where I live
Just gotta be careful now |
Anyone have had their CF exhaust for atleast 2 years? If so? How's is it holding up?
|
My right can had a nice quarter size flat spot the low life is not so fun sometimes :p
|
I'm on swifts and had CF cans for a year. I haven't scraped yet.
|
I scraped both mine a few months after installation almost made me cry. No speed bump, just not paying attention and drove through boulders of rocks over a driveway in the middle of repair. I heard every boulder tear through the canisters. About a nickel size exactly where your scrapes are. I quickly realized it was a sleeve and not an overlay. Pricing on just rear section is not bad at all. Yours is not nearly as bad as mine, my canisters are definitely straight through the cf...sound is louder too. Just don't plan on keeping the Z much longer so no replacement happening for me.
Be glad your damage is minimal! |

see i cant complain about wheel gap |
I agree OP, the wheel gap is so fugly, bothered me everytime I walked toward my car. Just hated the profile, lowering created a totally different look. Still worth the low life in my opinion. I'd do it again, no speed bumps were a problem. Just a clear obstacle I didn't pattention to, smh. You gotta pay to play sometimes, I'm paying!

^^^
Trying not to spend money on wheels :) |
War wounds every Z has a story to tell.
|
Hate to see this, but luckily no one can see it without crawling underneath :)
|
at least you didnt do this, hahaha!
http://www.the370z.com/members/ripti...75143-ouch.jpg Both of my SS cans now have nice flat spots(fixed with a mallet). I never had an issue on Swifts, but dropping her farther on coils did the trick. Made the exhaust a bit deeper sounding...win...????? who knows :p |
Dannnng! Lol
|
Ouch lol. Atleast yours is SS, and that you can weld it together

But definitely agree on the "pay to play". |
I'm just gonna replace it. Z is no longer my daily after this weekend :)

the carbon fiber is wrapped around the stainless steel. the whole can is not fully carbon fiber. its just a wrap. underneath it is stainless steel.
|
To the poster above....I'm not sure you're correct. In either case, I trust the quote below!. :icon18:

Ouch, I'm planning on getting exact same exhaust (carbon fiber, non-res). Sorry to hear that. Just posted a thread on should I get coil overs or Springs. Maybe I should just get Springs after all and just be careful. I thought the springs wouldn't give me enough of a clean look but with 20's maybe I'll be fine. Drive slow when your lowered I guess
|
If anyone needs replacement CF cans gimme a shout
