Boosted Exhaust Sound Repository

IDK about you guys, but I like hearing boosted cars. Most of the exhaust sounds we have are from the NA guys. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to start a thread for just boosted rides. So to start it off, Here are a few I have on my journal as well as a new one from tonight. I wasn't sure whether to start it in here or in the FI section, anyways.. :yum:

Is that you in the last video? Might want to edit your google/youtube account name lol. You show yourself driving fast, then practically drive back home (it looks like) and your name is posted right under the video title.

Sounds awesome though!:happydance:

What's wrong with your headers? If the Z1 headers do not replace the stock cats, you should be fine.

Joepro 01-24-2014 07:34 PM

They have DE flanges not hr flanges, we are almost positive the only difference will be the flanges and not the location, it looks as if I will have Sasha not weld any flanges on the header downpipes and just give me some DE flanges and I will have someone local weld them on...if its more than just the flanges Ill be in for some custom fab work to get the pipes to line up, but I think it is just the flanges I have too much invested in the headers to sap back, plus I sold my OE headers, and they are just too damn pretty to switch back.

I'm not trying to bash anyone, but do you guys like the hissing and blow off sounds? To me, it makes your car sound like a vacuum cleaner. I'm not bashing Forced Induction or anything, its the best way to get the most power, but from these videos it seems like the hissing and blow off noises would get on my nerves if I had a turbo or supercharger in my car.

Then FI isn't for you. The noises coming out of a turbo set up are music to my ears.

Chuck33079 01-26-2014 10:23 PM

You could always plumb the BOVs back into the intake tract if it bothered you that much. It'll still be there, but not quite as obtrusive.

As long as you like it, more (horse)power to you ;)

The noise you hear during acceleration is the air being pulled in by the turbo. There is no way to get around it...it is a large volume of air moving through a filter, it will sound like that. I quiet enjoy that sound to be honest, and I think most of the guys here do a well. If you don't like it, that is fine too. We all have our own idea of what sounds good, and what doesn't. I don't like loud exhausts myself, and always try to make the car nice and quiet....just a personal thing I guess.

The BOV in that particular video is the Tial Q 50mm BOV. It is the quietest and most common on the market. Again though, a large volume of air escaping thorough a "small" opening, it will make noise. I think it is another one of those noises that most guys do like to hear, and again, there will always be a few that don't.

Joepro 01-27-2014 08:13 AM

I just hate the fluttery BOV, they sound stupid, the one on the BP kit which I hope to have on my car by summer is perfect, release the air and get it over with, ya got to let the car next to you youre boosted!

the flutter sound is typically the wastegate not the BOV on most set-ups. well in most cases that is lol :tiphat:

Joepro 01-27-2014 08:41 AM

I just assumed it was the bov...but this is what I mean...it's so bad.

yeaaaaaa that just sounds awful lol not a fan of that set up

Ron 01-27-2014 09:00 AM

The fluttery sound on that Supra is not the WG, is air rushing back and hitting the compressor wheel after the BOV closes. Wastegates don't really make a sound when they open, it's just a valve to bypass exhaust gasses from reaching the turbine once desired boost pressure is reached. If the WG are routed back into the exhaust most of the time you can't even tell when they open. Different story if they are open dumps.
