i'm gonna lose my brains if the R2C give negative results (dyno'ed by Tin) like theDreamer got with Takeda's...lol

Oh wow, I totally f'd up with the video. Guess we're going to have to wait until I go back with my FI exhaust installed. Let's just say when I thought I wasn't recording, I was. When I thought I was recording... I wasn't. :roflpuke2:

I did get Tony's car, though. :tiphat:

Yes. Parts manufacturers are always going to advertise their gains on a dyno that shows the biggest numbers. DynoJet's read hp a lot higher than DynoDynamics.

Just use Tony's car as an example... 275whp on a Dyno Dynamics and 307whp on a DynoJet.

nogoodname 08-22-2009 12:18 PM

what about dynapack???how do those turn out??

Sorry guys, I posted those on my BB at the dyno. Temperature was about 84 degrees but it was very humid... 67% vs. 36% last time.

Dyno sheets -- the shop is going to .pdf me the comparative graph as the printer ran out of color ink. I will get them Monday morning, but basically I can say that gains are very minimal until the top end... the graph looks just like the Stillen G3 and Injen dyno.

I think if you work out all the math this is in line with the 15whp advertised by Injen, which was run on a DynoJet. For reference, Tony (2theextreme) was with me and he dyno'd at just over 270whp vs. 307whp on a DynoJet, so there is a big difference.

I have some videos and stuff that I'm going to try to upload today. Tonight at the latest.

so you are saying, with just the intake, your car dyno'd only 5 whp less than Tony when he has 13k invested in his car? Damn...something doesn't add up right there.

m4a1mustang 08-22-2009 12:23 PM

I really don't know much about those. I do know that the Dyno Dynamics machine is known as the "heart breaker dyno" because it reads so low compared to others. The operator at the shop told Tony and I that FI 350's that put dyno in the high 300s on his machine will read mid 400s on DynoJets... so you can see how that'd be heart breaking.

There are a lot of factors that are involved, and it's more like an 11whp difference. IMO that sounds about right on this machine because the only other mods that he has that would really give him more power over me are his HFCs and CBE (Berk and Stillen). And he has the Stillen G3 intakes which probably, under totally equal conditions, are identical to my Injens.

And, keep in mind that with his CBE and HFCs he will whoop the crap out of mine in mid-range power. It's not all about peak hp.

Caravanshaka 08-22-2009 12:28 PM

I thought you said he ran 270, and you ran 265?

It still should be based on percentage gains:

a dynojet stock runs about 280, tony got about 10% increase with his mods that put him to 307...so on a dyno dynamics if he ran 258 stock, he still should have seen a 10% increase of 26hp with a result of 284.

same with the injen, if they dyno'd 280 stock on a DJ, 15 hp is roughly 5%. so you should have seen 5% gain over 258, or 12-13hp.

Caravanshaka 08-22-2009 12:30 PM

Either way, you blow thedreamer's results outta the water! :rofl2:

The problem with that is that you are working under the assumption that power is a linear measure, but it's not. Since it's not a linear measure and since both dynos use different assumptions in calculating power output, we can't compare that way.

What we can say is that, on a DynoJet, expect around a 15whp gain. On a DynoDynamics machine, expect less. I'm sure a Mustang dyno would give us totally different readings as well.

Caravanshaka 08-22-2009 12:34 PM

% isn't linear. It is the way I have read nearly everywhere to analyze gains on any dyno. % increase over base.

You and me both! The garage where the dyno is has a Dynojet though...

Not even sure when I will receive the intakes, they haven't charged me yet.

IMO, he had no net gain or loss when you factor in error. If he reset his ECU, maybe he'd see a small net positive gain. But I'm in the camp that believes that the short-tube intakes are NOT going to provide any measurable gains over the stock intakes, which we have proven are very efficient up to a nearly redline. Long-tube intakes don't even see gains over stock until very high up in the range because the stock system is that good.

:iagree:

Caravanshaka 08-22-2009 12:39 PM

btw, not trying to start an argument or anything, just going off of what I have learned about dyno's in the past.

I wish all dyno's would get calibrated to the same measurements so we didn't have to try and compare apples to oranges :shakes head:
