Amen to that.

Exactly... Then you don't need to see it
;)

Kingbaby 07-27-2013 06:59 PM

Wish the 370z had a different engine...

I've had my fair share of teaser threads...

Nut_N_Much 07-27-2013 06:59 PM

Man I hate waiting, drives me crazy... :excited:

gomer_110 07-28-2013 06:37 PM

@BJ, since it sounds like the intake mani project is moving forward, any idea when it'll be ready for sale? Not trying to rush you guys, I'm just curious.

Dwnshift 07-28-2013 08:13 PM

Nope.
Just a lot to do and have to make sure it's a justify-able project.
Cost vs HP gain.

Kingbaby 07-28-2013 09:48 PM

Well the other thread answered that question....

cost vs hp makes it not a justifiable

Same as everything on this and previous VQ platforms

xxAGAVExx 08-19-2013 07:48 AM

Any updates?

Dwnshift 08-19-2013 12:36 PM

Still a work in progress.
The next step is pretty expensive for a prototype... so again it's cost vs. gain.
I can say this on some initial testing actual gains have been made.

1 race left
Lime rock in 2 weeks... Then project time becomes more available.

I can only dream that it will look like this

in for the "pushed to the back burner" reply

Nut_N_Much 11-30-2013 12:44 PM

Man, I am planning a big build and this would be perfect.. Can't wait!!!

Jordo! 11-30-2013 02:21 PM

This is the next (and final) mod I would consider spending cash on.

I had a buddy in Texas I tried to get working on one, but nothing came of it.

All other attempts, with the exception of the M370, appear to be very expensive or stalled... :(

AzSpeng 11-30-2013 02:46 PM

If someone in the Phx,AZ area wants something like this done, I would be interested in doing it. Just need a car :)

SPOHN 11-30-2013 03:08 PM

I'd like to have a manifold that's metal and preforms just as good as stock. But to think some miracle is going to come from a intake manifold is flat insane.

BGTV8 11-30-2013 04:24 PM

I agree

The OEM intake is "sufficiently" efficient for the standard engine.

If you replace the oil pump gears with billet and remove the rev limit of the OEM ECU then you might expose the airflow limits of the stock porting and manifold.

Similarly, if you increase the compression (whilst remaining NA) you may also expose the airflow limits.

The OEM heads/ports and manifold will only flow enough air to make torque for 430-440 hp at ~7500rpm+. Running NA at 13.5:1 (on E85 or FIA 106RON race fuel) you WILL certainly need an upgraded inlet manifold and possibly ITB at that.

If you are FI, who cares - the above atmosphere pressure will resolve 97% of the flow restrictions.

IMHO, the only folks who need an inlet manifold (unless you want engine-bay bling or bragging rights) are those hard-core racers who are forced to remain NA by their engine-mod rules.

SPOHN 11-30-2013 04:44 PM

From what I'm told our cars oil pump system holds back a lot. Especially on the top end.

If you have a flowbench someone should take you up on this

AzSpeng 11-30-2013 07:07 PM

I dont but its not out of my realm to purchase or make one ;)

The shop ;)

BGTV8 11-30-2013 10:24 PM

The OEM crap gears are only good for 7500rpm, much over that and you get failures and that is an engine-killer, so NISMO billet gears and an Accusump are the way to go (or a dry-sump kit but they are a serious investment).

edub370 11-30-2013 11:49 PM

^ what gears are you talking about?

BGTV8 12-01-2013 12:04 AM

Gears in the oil pump that create the pressure to circulate the oil thru the engine.

You're in ausi, get PPG to make a replacement. If I could run above 7500 safely I'd do it.

junglefever 05-14-2014 05:47 AM

I guess this died a natural death?

Kingbaby 05-14-2014 05:39 PM

peacefully as the rest have...

Glover997 05-01-2015 02:00 PM

Bump!

Another useless thread that the OP runs away after not seeing a gain out of his project!

njobe89 05-01-2015 02:21 PM

lame, wasted like 10 min reading through this to come to this ending

Glover997 05-01-2015 02:50 PM

Mods should ban these people forever .. he could of come back for a feedback, either good or bad!

Downshift is Doran Racing, I think they have more concerns about racing their cars than working on a product for the consumer market. Also they have to stick to very strict rules on what changes they can do with their cars so what they produce may not fit what others want.

Think before you post.

dastaco 05-07-2015 12:08 AM

It was built, it worked, it's on hold for the time being. Downshift has a lot on his plate being a race car driver and all.

Yuuup.
And it also requires a looooot of $$$.
Have to weigh all the options and the way we wanted to make/ design it... It would not be cheap... For us or the end. User.
