Rare exhausts??
I've been doing some research and I've noticed that there are some rare exhausts out there for our Zs that aren't really advertised on the forum. There's an exhaust called the Akarpovic exhaust which sounds FANTASTIC. It's so exotic and extremely high quality. Only thing is it runs for around $3k for the whole system.
I recently discovered an exhaust by a company called Xforce that is very nice too but I think there's only a hand full of people on the forum who own this exhaust. That being said, is there a reason why these exhausts are not popular? The Xforce exhaust is literally half the price of the Akarpovic exhaust but believe me you can notice the difference, not dissing anyone from the land of down under..y'all's exhaust is SWEET. Just want to get some insight on this due to the fact there's almost no info about either of these exhausts on the forum. And yes I've used the search feature and gone to both websites and read about their exhausts, it's just that no one has made a review about either of these exhaust systems. In total there's about 10 YouTube videos for these exhausts so that kinda doesn't help either....anyone heard these in person??? |
Just my personal opinion, but I think Akarpovic didn't do THAT great of a job on the exhaust system for the 370z. Their HP gains aren't something to die for, their sound is meh and also the weight savings isn't as crazy as it is on the e92 system. The price is double the price of an Fast Intentions exhaust, and iirc Fast Intentions has better gains and better sound, while the weight difference isn't too much.

TBH there are quite a few unheard of / underplayed exhausts for the Z.
For example this Is an amazing sound. I like it far better than any exhaust i've heard for the Z, throaty and friggin deep, man. Half the forum doesn't even know of its existence, and lots discredit it for its lower price tag (can be had for like $500 new, shipped). I have it and i'm stupendously in love with it. Go with whatever the heck you like and dont worry about the rest. Youll be driving it nobody else. |
Price is one factor. And if there aren't a lot of proven gains for an exhaust, most people will look instead toward one with lots of dyno support such as Fast Intentions.
Exhausts like Meisterschaft and Amuse are exceptions to the rule since they have such unique sounds that any lack in performance compared to other exhausts is easily excused. And sub $1k exhausts are overlooked because "You get what you pay for" pops up, even though it may not always be the case. EDIT: BTW the Injen exhaust has the be one of the rarest 370Z exhausts. Almost no info at all on it for some reason. |
^I've never really seen it for sale, but it was one of the first exhaust videos I came up across on youtube :) It sounds amazing
I have a T1R catback and ART pipes for my set up |
The injen exhaust is sweet!!!! But does it have good gains?! What about the quality of the welds?? No one really has this exhaust though
|
I looked at injen. If I am not mistaken, do not quote me, the exhaust has zero to minimum gains. I researched the exhaust forints and even brought one thread back from the dead and nothing. There was a post several weeks ago about injen exhaust, the guy bought it but never posted vids. FYI my FI exhaust comes in soon.

Look into litespeed racing exhaust it sounds amazing quality is great, I've had it on my car for over a year. Always get compliments on it. not to mention it looks pretty
|
Here's an informative website with fairly accurate stuff..
370Z Exhaust.com - Sound clips, photos + places to buy |

Akarpovic is big in the Corvette community, and, as posted, they are pricey. They sound good with the LS motor, but I went with Corsa because I thought it sounded better, for half the price.
Since buying my Z a few weeks ago, I listened to damn near every available exhaust sound bite on the internet for 370's, and went with the FI's for their "overall" sound. Some were just as nice (again, to my ears) at lower RPM's, but were just too obnoxious at higher RPM's for me. IMHO, it FI was the best overall for my needs. |

Tanabe?

Speaking of the rare exhaust... This one is the king of all! Let me introduce the Djembe exhaust for our VQ family.:tiphat::rofl2:
|
I am totally okay with ^that^ staying rare.
|
:roflpuke2:
But seriously, does anyone run w/ the injen exhaust?!?! Is it niiiice?! |

Wish tanabe would do a group buy and lower the price by a few hundreds...wouldn't that be nice.... |
Does anyone have the ark dts exhaust????

5zigen SP, idk if that's rare, I only know of two other forum members that run them. Great tone, y-pipe included and has some nice resonators.

Anyway I've decided to go with this system, as far as I'm aware it'll probably be the only one of its kind here in the UK, that's enough for me. If I don't like it, and that's unlikely, I'll change it. As for 'gains', honestly how many of you can actually feel the difference of a few HP? Great for bragging rights down the pub...I could just run with half a tank of fuel, no screen wash and wearing just a mankini for the same 'gains'. BTW, the youtube clip of the Injen is of a modified system with quad tips, OEM is dual. Has anyone any info on the Injen, as far as I'm aware their products are of good design and build quality. |
I have the Akrapovic system, I bought it as I wanted something subtle and more 'exotic sportscar' that said I wish it was slightly louder.
I work for a car dealership in Aus, we deal with Xforce often with our Holden franchise. Quality isnt great but for the money you pay they make the V8 commodore's sound fantastic.... the Z's not so much |

I have Litespeed Titanium and it is superb!
In Australia, we also have Hi Tech Exhaust for the 370 and it sounds quite good. It's not expensive either. I imagine it's rare for US 370 to have this exhaust. For me, other rare exhausts would be Zele, HKS SSM, Saclam, Powercraft and MCR Crimson! |

Custom exhaust is rare
|
Supersprint it is not rare simply expensive.
Pricey, steep, sounds good + gains. |
I ended up going with the ark dts burned tip exhaust

saying the Injen exhaust has zero gains without a single dyno on the system is kinda jumping the gun a little.
MCR - $5200 5Zigen - $1900 (y pipe back) mines - $4530 (y pipe back) akrapovic - $2200 litespeed - $2700 meisterschaft ti - $2900 supersprint - unsure topsepeed's full TI system amuse r1 - $3600 saclam - (never seen or heard of one for sale) those are your rare exhaust systems. i would LOVE to have any of these systems. but all cost soooo much i do kno of one thing i dont think anyone has on this forum... 5zigen's headers i'll just leave this here... http://www.5zigen.co.jp/products/muf...hoto02_z34.jpg |
I would do those headers, have the sp CBE already. But my major issue is that picture you showed. See how many welds there are and how smooth the curves are?
For some reason taptalk isn't letting me upload the image but if you google corner garage, who sold a set of those headers, you can see not nearly as many welds are used and the pieces have sharp lines. Almost like they made a fancy production model and now the current offerings are way cheaper because they only do about 1/3 of the original design welds. |
