I want to pull the trigger on a cold air intake. I have gone through threads and everybody keeps going back and forth. I just need one answer. If there are two that are alike in performance then name them and there Gen/Stage. Thanks.

Is having the cold air intake upfront by the bumper necessary? Or are the usual cold air intakes up in the engine bay just as effective?

A cold air intake by definition is in front of the radiator, in the engine bay is referred to as a short ram intake.
A short ram will fall below a cold air because ambient air around it will becomes higher as the engine temp increases.

Well put. Pulling fresh air from the fenders will give you better, and more consistent results, year round. Always spring for the true CAI unless you live somewhere that floods frequently IMO haha. SRI might provide a more crisp throttle due to less piping length before it hits the TB but they make the car feel like a dog in the hot months.
