Default Service Engine Light Soon Light after Exhaust Install

Hello everyone,

I had a question and was wondering if you can give me your insight, please!

About a week ago I had a Greddy Ti-C CBE installed on my car and I did not have the EVAP relocation kit. After asking a local Nissan Dealer service adviser and speaking with the muffler shop owner we decided it was okay to shave off this part underneath my car.

Google Image Result for http://www.slidegood.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5a2c14e15267eac9cad207bd7b2f8bbe/i/m/image_31404.jpg

The EVAP cover was in the way so we shaved off a little bit of this part and my car seemed to be fine for about 225 miles of driving. Then suddenly the Service Engine Light soon came on!

I reset the car with the accelerator pushing it down 5 times, etc and it went away. However after driving it for about a 100 miles it came back on just now.

I havent had the code checked out yet, but will do soon enough. My question is: is this going to mess up my car? If i keep resetting the car every time this light comes on? or is it simply emission, etc?

Please let me know.

thank you so much!!!

Im not to sure if this exhaust has some special component, but why would you need to relocate anything for an exhaust install?

Not going to mess the car up unless the light starts blinking, that could be something really serious. But you need to find the problem. Stop resetting it and find out what the code is. They may have damaged the Evap canister.

They Said it was Error Code P0456 and the service man at Pep Boys told me it's a leak because of my gas cap? He simply reset it and told me It's no big issue. Any feedback on his reply?

thanks so much for the input!

That is a code for a evap leak. Usually it's just the customer forgetting to tighten down their gas cap after a fill up or whatever but in this case your evap canister might have a leak. Check for loose hoses or cracks at the evap canister.

I got that exact code after installing my short tails. It was about a day or two after and I pulled the code, which was identical to yours. It's an EVAP code, specific to Nissan and a few other manu's. I reset it and never saw it again.

After this I made it a habit to click the gas cap five times instead of two...

I would say you nicked the cannister and it is leaking slightly when you get pressure up after a fill up or on a hot day. Check see if new pipe is rubbing the cannister now in the area you shaved. Maybe put a daub of caulk on the spot you shaved and see if that seals it. Even better is some liquid electrical tape rubber you can paint on with a little brush provided on the can.

the code I got was air/fuel mix. I didnt shave my EVAP at all. Just installed and pushed it up against the can. It sits just slightly lower on one side but I dont really care. The error is based on the O2 sensors for me because I have test pipes. I dont think the EVAP has anything to do with it.
