Meisterschaft needs to quiet down for daily driving!

Okay so I'm runny an m2 y pipe to a custom 2.5 or 3 inch mid pipe to a Meisterschaft axle-back. I love it and how loud it is, I just need something a bit more stealth for daily driving because I have a heavy right foot. My friends can hear me coming from miles away, no kidding. Ive gotten pulled over by local PD numerous times and I know they wont bother me so much if they don't hear me coming. Funny thing is none have said anything for how loud it is just cited me for other things. I think its the respect factor since it dose sound so exotic and sexy not just stupid loud.

Now, I have a few options.

Get resonators, something that will keep it down and put them on the mid pipe. I have no idea what to get, I don't know how it will change the tone.

Get custom adjustable valves that will quiet me down with the turn of a switch for daily driving. Then, when i hit the canyon or track I can fully open it back to how it is now.

Sell the axle back, find another axle back with more restriction. Any aftermarket, Nismo or g37 back end. Basically will be a resonator delete still.

Thanks guys anyone with my problem feel free to chime in!

Full throttle, flame suit on.

FlawlessZ 11-30-2012 01:26 PM

Yeah anyone have any experience getting one on a Z?

SS_Firehawk 11-30-2012 03:36 PM

Get the XYZ Y pipe with resonator, will help some, you may need to have resonators put on the mid pipes as well.

NickTurnon 11-30-2012 03:55 PM

I have the AAM short tails. Looking to maybe add resonators...

Let me know what you end up doing please :)

SS_Firehawk 12-01-2012 11:45 AM

Just saw that vid, that's not a good street to play in. Did sound good though.

Amuse370z 12-01-2012 08:03 PM

:O That sounds....amazing...

FlawlessZ 12-03-2012 10:59 AM

Im going to go for an exhaust valve for now. Maybe if it quiets it down well i will run test pipes *resonated haha.

ZKraken22 12-03-2012 01:07 PM

So are you keeping the exhaust?

FlawlessZ 12-03-2012 11:28 PM

Resonators do ALMOST nothing, don't lie to yourself, lol

My car with a Stillen CBE and TPs is about as loud as yours and PD doesn't give me shíte for it, lol

Gotta get rid of the lead foot, lol, or use it on special occasions like me

Cuban Z 12-13-2012 08:37 AM

So the Meistersheistercraftershafter is quieter now with the option of opening her up?

NickTurnon 12-13-2012 08:41 AM

Wait, so you'd have to buy two of the valves? $199 a piece. Then install?

No, single 3" valve bolts between the Y-Pipe and the Mid-pipe and my friends never pay retail ;)

NickTurnon 12-13-2012 08:52 AM

I would love this then! Haha

pauliewalnutz 12-13-2012 02:33 PM

How did you put this between the mid pipe and the ypipe?? Wouldnt that just block the flow? lol.......Take some pics and explain how it works. I really need this for my morning starts and some other occasions lmao.

03Z33 12-13-2012 03:42 PM

Yes it will restrict the flow when in the fully closed position but it can be set to anywhere from fully closed (quietest) to fully open where there is no restriction. Normally you'll only fully close it when your just cruising around at low RPM around town... rest of the time you can open it a few clicks so it doesn't restrict flow too much.

diego@vossen 12-14-2012 10:52 AM

I really love the ECV option, this is sik!!!

johncy2000 12-14-2012 02:11 PM

I have Meisterschaft on my Nismo. I have no idea what this valve does. Can someone elaborate more on the location of this valve? Thanks.

pauliewalnutz 12-14-2012 03:25 PM

Yeah, elaborate and take some videos. Thank you!

omm370z 12-14-2012 04:15 PM

Pm 03z33 for more info.

FlawlessZ 12-14-2012 05:30 PM

This valve open's and close's with a push/pull switch you wire to your cabin. Basically how the brakes work on a bike. Jeff has a video but I will be making another this weekend, including drive-by's and different levels of the valve. Also, like Jeff said you one need one between your y and mid pipe's. I do not have the true dual setup that the full Meisterschaft CBE system comes with. I have a M2 y pipe with a custom straight through mid pipe. Hope this helps for now fellas.

axmea? 12-14-2012 06:45 PM

That is unique Vick. I like the idea and look forward to hearing it. Sweet deal knowing Jeff.

omm370z 12-14-2012 08:49 PM

Awesome hope jeff wont mind

370Z exhaust control valve closed/open - YouTube

pauliewalnutz 12-14-2012 09:12 PM

How much exhaust gas is even getting through it when its fully closed? Almost nothing im assuming. Isnt that just gonna cause problems sooner or later? Its a cool idea though for people who have this with HFC's like I do

What the video doesn't show is the different settings, it's spring loaded and clicks so you can go from fully closed to fully open or stop at a few points in between so:

0% (fully closed)
30% (first click)
50% (second click)
80% (third click
100% (fully released)

These are rough numbers just to help you visualize it. Each click the sound gets progressively louder and power/flow are barely affected at all but the fully closed position. You won't be driving around at fully closed very often unless you're just cruising slow around town/neighborhood and need to be super stealth. I recommend opening it at least one click for any higher speed driving which is still significantly quieter than fully open.

Oh okay, Now I understand a little better. Im gonna pick one of these up then. How was the install? and how did you get the cable into the cabin? Thanks for any info!

pauliewalnutz 12-15-2012 08:23 AM

Also, what mm size would I need for a 2.5 inch pipe? The end of my y-pipe is 2.5 and the inlet of the mid pipe is 2.5 as well

The cable is just long enough to be ran through the rubber grommets in the floor behind the rear strut bar/driver seat. You'll see it when you remove the carpeting and foam.

They also offer a longer 3.5M cabel if you want to run it further forward to the front of the cabin:

N1 Universal Turbo Universal Muffler APEX Integration

You would run the 61mm, this one:

ECV, Flange-Type Exhaust Control Valve APEX Integration

Thanks for the info. Post some pics if you can! I got a G37 coupe, so I gotta see where Ill be able to run it through lol

pauliewalnutz 01-05-2013 08:54 AM

Random question. Can you adjust this valve without running the cable into the cabin??
