Stillen Gen 3 Cold Intake or Stillen Gen 2 Cold Intake

Can anyone tell me how much of a difference there is in the sound/performance of the 3 compared to the 2 ? Seems like the Gen2 would be so much easier to install but if the performance is that much better with the Gen3 it mat be a better choice.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 09:52 AM

G2 didnt make much power or any......it sucked
G3 made good amount of power gains but takes longer to install

frost 07-05-2009 09:54 AM

I don't want to get on you too much on your first post, but there must be 20 threads that ask the same exact thing.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 09:56 AM

the best intake to buy is the G3, that's it

G2 is just for a shiny intake system that does next to nothing

This ^, if it were as easy as a G2 to get the gains there wouldn't have been a G3.

MacDaddy 07-05-2009 10:55 AM

Does anyone know if the G2 performed better with HFC and exhaust added to the setup????

there's a reason there was a G1 -> G2 -> G3...lol

BMW Killa 07-05-2009 12:34 PM

intake and rims are two of the biggest reposts on this board

nogoodname 07-05-2009 12:35 PM

merge all the intake threads into one enormous thread...lol

I have an excellent idea for this...........

Togo 07-05-2009 02:47 PM

To the OP,

I'd just wait for the Gen 4s to come out before purchasing. They are supposed to be even better than G3s.

On a side note, do the Gen2s count as CAI? Aren't they just short engine bay rams?

nogoodname 07-05-2009 03:06 PM

it's a short ram intake

where'd you hear about a G4??

Togo 07-05-2009 03:14 PM

The G4s are being released right before we get the G5s........... :D

nogoodname 07-05-2009 03:59 PM

i want the G7's

Togo 07-05-2009 04:09 PM

Those aren't gettin released til Dec'10 if we are LUCKY. I'm expecting May '11 on those personally.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 04:11 PM

the G7's wrap around the engine , then goes behind the grille and then pops out the wheel wells and then out to the front of the car.....must add like 55 hp

Togo 07-05-2009 04:14 PM

55 might be a bit on the conservative side! I'm thinking way more based on efficiency alone.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 04:15 PM

pretty much, the point is to not waste money on the G2's

Togo 07-05-2009 04:18 PM

The g8 experimental design runs the tubes through the firewall, into the cabin, and sits directly in front of the AC vents to suck in cold air. 80hp gain minimum.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 04:27 PM

^^ that's amazing !!

so what do you do in the winter time, it will be freezing in the cabin

frost 07-05-2009 04:28 PM

Sometimes you have to suffer for HP y0.

nogoodname 07-05-2009 04:33 PM

nothing like some good olde pounds of torque to liven up the day

spearfish25 07-05-2009 06:38 PM

Perhaps a newer generation will just wrap the exhaust pipes back through an intercooler and then into the intake again. Forced induction with exhaust suction too!

Hey that might solve this whole Global Warming thing I hear so much about!

Yea but you have to have the A/C running... I hear if you turn the heat on it helps to pass emmisions...

wstar 07-06-2009 11:49 AM

Just remove the entire intake system back to the throttle bodies and take the hood off. Best cold air system evar!

semtex 07-06-2009 12:16 PM

Wow. This thread got silly in a hurry.
On that note, just wait till you guys see my YouTube vid of the upcoming G10 intake!!! It hooks up to the Stillen CBE and loops back to the engine.

Josh@STILLEN 07-06-2009 12:41 PM

:icon18:

you guys are out of control.. that being said.. I'll bring the ideas to the engineers.. :D

nogoodname 07-06-2009 12:51 PM

^^ the air filters in front of the AC is a neat idea...lol...cold air intake FTW!!

Togo 07-06-2009 02:31 PM

That not considered a Cold Air Intake anymore, it would actually qualify as an ICE COLD AIR INTAKE (ICAI)!!!

nogoodname 07-06-2009 02:39 PM

Ice Ice Baby..........lol

thispecialk 07-13-2009 04:20 AM

quick question about the stillen intake , does it give a check engine light on. i read somewhere on the forum that it throws a code.

No. Not unless you seriously botch something during the install, like damage your MAF sensors or something.

thispecialk 07-16-2009 02:26 AM

hows the carb approval going? i head to cali in feb 2010

OMGWTFBBQ 07-17-2009 01:00 PM

I heard this is the new design for the Stillen Gen4 intakes. It comes with dyno-proven gains too!

Leaf Blower Bolt on Dyno pull - Car Videos on StreetFire

Don't tell the guys at Stillen I leaked this video.

semtex 07-17-2009 02:42 PM

^That was pretty funny.

wstar 07-17-2009 02:48 PM

The sad thing is, people are actually selling "electric turbochargers" based on this:
