Nismo Axle Back Custom Exhaust With 5" Burned Tips
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
So, I am on a quest for a custom exhaust. I believe the Nismo exhaust is plenty good at this stage. I am not trying to gain horsepower (I will go Turbo eventually), just a better/louder exhaust sound. I like the FI and Motordyne sound, but those are cat-back systems. The AAM Short Tails sounds pretty good to me, but the 4" exhaust tips are too small for a Nismo. I found a couple axle-back systems from Top Speed and Megan Racing, but again, the exhaust tips are too small. So, here are my questions and I hope you can help: - Should the pipes be resonated or muffled, or straight? - If the answer to the question above is 'resonated' or 'muffled', should I have a shop custom bend the pipes and put it all together or should I just buy one of the axle-back systems mentioned above and have the shop swap the tips? Attached is a pic of the tips I am getting and an example of the axle-back systems I have found. Thanks! :) |
Go with one of the axlebacks if you like the specific sound they make and just want to change the tips. If you don't exactly love the sound you can always try to have a custom made one. The design of the axleback should depend on how loud you want it to be and what sound you want.
More bends, resonated = quieter, more civil, clean/muffled tone Less bends in piping, non resonated = louder, more aggressive, raw/raspy tone I agree with your choice with the tips though! Pictures when done :) |
Thanks C2.
I will order the AAM short tails (hopefully they can sell me just the pipes) and the Modordyne tips. I think this will come out nice both sound and looks wise :) Will post pics once done. |
not sure but if you sent the tips to AAM - i bet they could put them on the short tails... just a thought

Randy, I had the same idea but I think it might be safer to have the shop put the tips on while on the car to make sure the they do not stick out too far out or in.

Really interested in doing this with my Topspeed pro1 exhaust.. The tips just aren't aggressive enough for me. I love these 5" burnt tips an for 99$ don't think that's bad.. Question though when you do have these tips installed are you going to have them welded on or do they simply stay in place with clamps/screws ?

To OP ... Your on the right track man... I just sold my nismo exhaust because it was just to quiet for my tastes, but I loved the 5" tips... They look much better IMO... I plan on doing custom 5" tips as well... Good luck and post pics! |
Who sells the tips for $99? I was quoted $125 per tip by Motordyne.
|
From looking at the motordyne website it says $99
|
Oh yes, $99 is for the 4.5" tip. $125 is for the 5". Going to the shop tomorrow to find out about custom made pipes and installation pricing.
|
Ahh ok I stand corrected haha.. Can u pm the link if there is one for the 5"

We make our short tails with clamp on style tips now (same tips, just not welded on) this gives users the ability to adjust a few inches, whether they want it flush or a bit of poking out
We have 5" clamp on style tips we use for our GT-R exhaust, I'm not 100% how this will look on a 370z though pics: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J...280839.ORF.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-i...280840.ORF.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-E...ip%2520R35.jpg the reason why I've never offered this to anyone was because I think it might look a bit tacky.. but hey it might actually look really cool. We have a 370z shop car but no nismo rear bumper to reference or test fit |
I have ordered the AAM Short Tails and the 5" tips (polished) used on the GT-R.
Thank you Khoi for the clarifications and great sale experience! I will post pictures and videos once installed. |
Wonder how the 5" would look on a non nismo
|
just shipped it out! can't wait to see what this looks like
Thanks for the call Olivier |
