I've been hearing a damn rattle in/behind the cubby since I've owned the car...I'm very close to ripping everything apart :icon17:

Funny story about my exhaust this morning:
I'm keeping my car @ my office becasue they're doing some concrete work on my driveway @ home. It's a single bay with a metal ceiling. So I open the door and there are a group of about 10 guys standing in the parking lot across the street - maybe 20 yards away. I start it up and in unison, they all jump and turn to look! LOL! It sounded like a damn F1 car starting up. If you've ever been to an F1 race, you know what I mean.

I backed out and they all walked over to the edge of the parking lot to check it out. It was all quite funny...

I never really noticed it up untill I got the exhaust, I think the vibration it causes kinda pronounced it more, but yea makes me wanna punch the cubby so it could stop lol, I'm also getting a ticking noise from the hatch..really annoying.

Thanks Tony for returning my call to order non-res pipes. Look forward to installing them and shaving some weight in exchange for more hp.

my "vibration noise" in my Z never happened until the exhaust but honestly i think mine might be simple as the heat shield not being bent back enough. when i do my oil change soon i'm gonna try and figure it out finally.

I'm a control room operator in a natural gas fired power plant. I park in front of the control room, backed in. So my Z is in front of the window, with the exhaust pointed at it. When I start the Z. The control room operator on shift thinks something has gone wrong in the plant and is checking the boards to see if one of the generators has tripped off line. The pure look of panic on his face throught the window is priceless. :D Once he realizes whats going on. He mother's me for a while. Cold starts with the LTH, 12" res, and cbe can be fun.

OT - on the cold starts.. ( Im in FL so its never that cold..but.. heh ) the first 30 secs to 1 min... its louder.. sounds more open throat-ed.. then it quiets down.. not a rev note.. but a open throat-ed one..

can any one explain why that is? At first I imagined it was just the time to get the oil circulating.. but it almost seems like a valve is open of some sort.. then closes?

I love that open throat-ed sound! I can only imagine what its like with LTH, HFC's, and F. I. CBE!

haha i did this to my gf's dog this morning. i let the dog out and went to warm up the Z and on the cold start i swear the little rat jumped 4 feet in the air.

Cold start means the engine is cold not that it's cold outside. It can be 110 outside, and you will still have a cold start. All new cars rev higher than idle when you first start a cold car.

Little Update-

Yes we are alive and well. To catch everyone up on what is what. I will do both list updates real soon. The CBE list as well as the Header list. As of today we have shipped up to #492. Now the last time I did an update the list was left at #515. We have sold up to #553 as of yesterday. The biggest update thus far is coming.

The past 2 months...

We are working away on the "TT" project. Pictures are coming real soon. It will be like nothing you have ever seen for this car! The 3" project is completed and some are already shipped and been installed. More will ship between tomorrow and mid next week. I still have not launched the thread for that yet. As of today we should be finalizing the deal to move in to our new facility which will take us from 3,000 sq ft to 7,000 sq ft. We will start the move on May 1st and should be up and running by July 1st. The move should not effect production! For the locals and anyone who wants to drive, there will be a grand opening/bbq/car show sometime this summer. This is a move that is long overdue. Personally: for the few of you who knew my Dad had quadruple bypass heart surgery last Friday, thank you for your prayers. Everything went well and he is recovering. He will be back to driving me nuts in no time.

My emails have piled up and I implore anyone that is interested in a new purchase or just has any questions, please call me directly. It is by far the fastest way right now for you to get a response. We thank you all for the continued support and business.

Tony

Anxious to see that updated list. I've forgotten where I'm at and looking forward to giving the Z some ballz.

speedfreek 04-26-2012 03:27 PM

Hey Speedy...seems I keep bumping into you on varioius forums. You had a lot of great info on the 1000RR that I used many times. But back on topic if you can find the email Tony sent you with the invoice when you ordered it will have all the details and P.O. No. which references your build #. I am #541 with expected delivery sometime in July. I too can't wait to finally give the Z it's balls back. Nissan should be ashamed of themselves for such a terrible exhaust note on such a beautiful sports car. :shakes head:

Puma0183 04-26-2012 04:32 PM

We are glad that you and your dad are well. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication. we are also sorry about all the presure on the updated list but we are just crazy about your exhaust. Thanks again Tony!

Thanks ZMan8.. just to clarify.. I understand what cold start refers too.. not temp, but engine state at start... I was asking specifically if any one knew where the shift in sound after 30 secs of cold start occurred.. like a valve closing or something.. with carb'd vehicle, the plate would close... with our cars..its something else..just a exhaust note change from an open throat ed sound, to muted after 30 secs..

Look closely, the car opens throttle partially and revs higher for a little. On cold start I've seen 1400 rpm for 10 seconds before it drops to the 700 rpm idle slowly. The open throttle is what creates the exhaust note. Additionally the cold pipes probably amplify the noise slightly more than warmed up ones.

ahh.. got ya.. yes.. rev's 1400..then slowly down.. but its the openness of the throttle, coupled with the cold pipes, that gives it that note for that short duration.. thanks ZMan8

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's where the noise comes from. My scion even is louder on cold starts

Setup is FI Long Tube Headers, TDX cat-back with 18" resonators, and two 100 cell HFCs welded into the lead pipe on the cat-back.

The cat is out of the bag!
I am so busy that I have not even had time to launch the new 100 cell HFC header option. Here are some pictures of what it looks like.
