Question: If u had to do it all over again, would u choose the 18's over the 12's?

You know, honestly, it's really hard to say because I've never actually heard the 18's in person, so I can't give a you straight forward answer. I will, however, say that the 12" is a tad too quiet for my taste (don't get me wrong, the sound is amazing), and wish I had gone non-resonated. I do plan on getting either HFC's or Long Tubes sometime in the future, but after seeing SeeYaBud's 12"+HFC combo, I kinda wish I had gone with the 18" (not a fan of the rasp). I believe I made the right choice going with the 12". People driving behind me says that the exhaust cans are BEAUTIFUL, but it's not loud enough! They all love the deep growl, though. :) I hope this wasn't too confusing.

Can customers request custom exhaust tips ( HKS Hi power style)?

STi 5 06-07-2010 03:14 PM

^^^Kinda curious of that myself. I was wondering what a J's racing turn down would look like. Only reason I ask is since I took the cats out, the bumper on my PW gets pretty yellowed. I thought maybe that the turn downs might help minimize that a little. Just a crazy thought.

Given the right amount of $$$ I'm pretty sure F.I. will do anything within reason.

F.I. Inc. 06-07-2010 08:12 PM

Sold 2 more today! #181 &182. I will update the list soon...

Thanks, Tony

#181 is all me! Only had the Z for a week and already needed an upgrade. I went w/ HFC's and 18" resonators on the CBE. Hurry up August! Thanks again Tony!

Thx man! It was actually pretty helpful. I'm gonna stay with my 12's

semtex 06-08-2010 03:55 PM

So, 12" with LTH will probably rasp big time, huh?

Juruki 06-08-2010 04:28 PM

In some youtube videos it does sound too raspy for me...
I like how it sounds on this one thou:

Videos lie! Jk... lol. Yeah, it sounds pretty damn sweet in that clip... I guess it just depends on the mic you're using.

Guys, another question about the FI exhaust....
People are telling me that there is a difference in the sound of the exhaust based on if u buy CF mufflers or not. That didn't make any sense to me because I thought all they are doing is changing the material to carbon, which shouldn't make a real difference in sound. Is the statement about the sound change true because it just seems wrong???

Thanks

The carbon fiber is the sleeve to the muffler it is not an overlay. The sound escapes easier through the carbon fiber and is absorbed better through the stainless steel. They sound very similar and most people will not be able to tell the difference. I designed the system and have heard more combinations than anyone. This is how I am able to know the difference.

Tony

XwChriswX 06-09-2010 12:21 PM

Its too bad you cant have some sort of mock up in the shop of the differing setups that someone could listen to them all individually, and pick out what combination they like...

I know that would prolly cost a ton, and use alot of resources, but you have to admit, as a vendor, I would think it could be great for helping the unsure make a good choice cause they know what they are getting before its on their car.

Just thinking out loud Tony lol [/Derail]

Thanks, that clears it up....I might want the carbon mufflers if I need to get some weight out of my rear, but I don't want to make any significant changes to weight distribution (I am a Track Geek). My next decision is 18" or no resonators at all....hmmm...Just need to find out some stuff about drone and loudness

If your worried at all about Drone/Loudness, then 18" res would be a good choice to minimize both. And it will help give it that distinct tone that just sounds good to the ears

370zForever 06-09-2010 01:19 PM

I'm not actually worried about too loud as much as too quiet. I want the FI to be loud cause I take it out on tracks where people could care less about quiet exhausts. The only thing is that on cruises and normal driving, I don't want drone. The exhaust sound will be fine on cruising, but an annoying drone could annoy me...I just need to find a good compromise...Anyone running no resonators here????

semtex 06-09-2010 01:42 PM

I can't get over the how raspy the 12" resonators sound in this vid . . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYyis21KrgE

Versus this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy-Oa-kJThI

I've got the 12" w/ CF mufflers on order, and I already have the LTH. I really really don't want it to sound like the car in the first vid. But if it sounds like the car in the second vid, then I'm all for it. Ugh!!!!

XwChriswX 06-09-2010 01:43 PM

I want LTH's so I know I'll need 18" res to counteract the open headers... I just dunno if I wanna do SS cans for better muffling action, or the CF ones since my Z is black and all... Decisions Decisions lol

dlmartin81 06-09-2010 01:45 PM

Ben - both vids are the same, seems like. I think you're just trying to say that you don't like the 1st car's sound but you like the 2nd.

That is how my exhaust sounds with LTH and Berk exhaust (video one), I was thinking of jumping to F.I. if it sounded like the second video but now I am not sure.

The first car has rasp once he hits about 3500RPMs while the second video there is zero rasp throughout.

Yeah, I can tell the different.

I was just telling Semtex that to me, both videos were the same, from start to finish. In other words, there might have been some technical error or difficulties in uploading the vids.

Juruki 06-09-2010 02:02 PM

maybe SeeYaBud86 can chime in on this...
Does your car sound like that in person or just on that video?

Look again. I originally posted the same vid twice by mistake, but I corrected it.

dlmartin81 06-09-2010 02:18 PM

^ Ah yes. The second vid is Tony's. Yeah, it sounds sick on that one.

Well, I don't think the 18" is a whole lot quieter that the 12" but it does eliminate most of the rasp, as most say....I don't know by experience, obviously. So perhaps you should upgrade to the 18" to be on the safe side.

For instance, if you take a look at M4A1's 'Dragon' videos (a few pages back), you'll see that it's still plenty loud but it's smooth sounding throughout. Keep in mind that he still has stock cats and headers.

theDreamer 06-09-2010 02:37 PM

I thought the original car had 12" resonators?

Youtube video 370z_header, with the car at night (I believe it is a black car).
The white 370z with s-tune kit is also a 12" resonator?

They both have the same setup.

semtex 06-09-2010 04:24 PM

Clear as mud. ;)

puckshaw 06-09-2010 05:09 PM

Bah you guys have got me all paranoid about rasp now. Mine is already raspy with just ERZ HFC's. I've got the 12" res TDX on order and really don't want it to sound any raspier. I've mostly heard people talk about drone and volume differences for 18" vs 12". Not much talk about rasp.

Tony can you chime in here and set the record straight?

cubarican84 06-09-2010 05:17 PM

:tup:I was a phone call away from changing my 18" to 12" on many a days. But i stuck with 18" and ordered CNT res test pipes ( if they suck, so what, for the price you can't lose). I have them both in hand and am planning on installing this Sat. I'm preparing myself for battle against the "demon" bolt:tup:

What's up Steven! Let me know how it turns out. The demon bolt seems like luck of the draw. Both installs I've done went really smooth. Good luck!

YouTube - AZ Rides Blue 370Z Time Attack 2010.WMV

Can only hear it at the beginning & at the end of the video when I am passing the cam on the short straight. Not much rasp to me.

F.I. CBE, 12" res., carbon mufflers, Berk HFC's.

NewYorkJon34 06-09-2010 10:25 PM

My Name's Jon, I'm the one in the Video with the 2 white Z's, I have the F.I. CF 18" and my good friend's car (Seeyabud86) has the F.I. CF 12" + hfcs. That video was shot on RCZ's camera, and honestly after watching it I think everyone started "freaking out". Maybe it was a combination of the camera + the hfcs, but the car does sound pretty good in person. Since it does have the hfcs, it has the hissing sound & a tiny tiny bit of rasp, but those 2 things are standard when buying hfcs. I think its just funny that some people started switching their orders after watching the video, & saying that his car was ricetastic, which is like saying everyone that ordered Tony's exhaust with HFC's has a ricetastic set-up, makes perfect sense :ugh2:

:iagree: There are plenty of ppl out there with both FI CBE + HFC. That alone says it all. I'm sure it sounds better in person. Plus, I've seen other vids of the same setup and they sound good. So, it must have been RCZ's camera....I dunno.

But man, sure is funny to see a lot of people changing there orders all of a sudden because of one vid. My advise, reference other vids before jumping ship.

This thread should be in the Guinness Book of World records for most views on a single thread ever, on any forum.

Anyone ever found a thread with more views?
