I got test pipes from Khoi just today at a great deal. It's great to see a vendor that loves the Z community (or at least this community). I'll be rocking test pipes, an ebay y pipe, and the short tails... once the "short tail catback" is released I'll gladly get rid of that ebay crap... I looked in the pipes and was a little appalled, but I suppose it's just piping.
Videos to come of test pipe + y pipe + short tails... loud videos. |
Hi Khoi, I'm interested, but I won't have the bucks until the end of next month. I'm loving my short-tails on my nismo!!!!

edit: wow skipped right over it. What was wrong with the insides? We just produced another 5 sets yesterday if it's an issue I need to address to the production team before we package them.. I'll go yell at them! Quote:

Yes sir!!

can't wait to see your pictures! |
Yep...will try post soon. I posted one pic on the new nismo owner intro thread yesterday!

I have AAM products, and I support their products  Long tube headers > resonator box like motordyne > 2.5" mid pipe > short tails ^^^^ this however is beast mode |

I thought motordynes xyz pipe is actually a Y-pipe with interchangeable parts at bottom of the Y? this in turn doesn't make it a true dual. With our H-Pipe we would be true dual all the way back, which would probably be super loud but we'll see how it goes! edit: right now our current true duals run 2 12" vibrant resonators. we might need to bump the size on this prototype especially for the guys running short tails. I think the best of both worlds would be to have the option to run with 1) no resonators 2) 12" resonators 3) 18" resonators, with 3 different price points |

I'd like to hear how loud it is.. Thank you 370zPurist. Also, your old comments at the beggining of this thread cracked me up- |
there are a few videos of short tails with test pipes on youtube already. Sounds super sexy on video but I'd advise against daily driving it unless you love loudness and attention lol
but yes in for video when you put it on :D |
Khoi, where are these videos you speak of? I only know of that one I sent you in a previous comment. The monterey blue 370 with invidia test pipes and short tails..

check out this video, he mentions a straight exhaust but not sure if this is on stock cats or what. He has a lot of videos with this set up |
Not seeing anything- try again? Is it the blue one from texas? If so, i believe he deleted the resonators as well
|
yes it is, his car sounds WILD haha it's very impressive but probably very loud in preson. I thought there were more videos but I guess not :( guess we have to wait on 370zpurist haha
edit: ok after looking at one of his other videos he does mention he is on stock cats, just upgraded Y pipe and resonator delete |
This one sounds like it would as a daily driver haha--
370z straight exhaust with AAM short tails - YouTube Also, check out this short one... sounds beefy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoFL...e_gdata_player |
I'll be on the test pipes and Y pipe this weekend. I don't have a particularly great camera but it should be accurate to sound, just not the volume.
I'm glad to see more interest, because I am really looking forward to this. The only problem with running three options is that I'd love to run each one for a week to see how I like them, I do want loud but I don't want insane, 100+ db sound that ends up giving me three tickets on noise violations. Plus, carrying that much product would probably increase the end price of each product. Not to mention I'd have to buy all three sections at some point, and if I like the non-resonated version but then try the 12" and then the 18", I'd have to sell the subsequent one to try the next one... then I'd have to sell the 18" to go back to the nonresonated version! I'd love to test these out too, but I don't exactly live very close to Maryland, not to mention it's going to snow here not that long from now. I would suggest something like the motordyne Y pipe which has the interchangeable rear sections and incorporate those into the midpipe or H pipe, but that introduces more flanges, gaskets, and other things that can break... not to mention more development cost. Decisions, decisions. |
Quote:
the motordyne set up is great if you run the stock midpipe as it Y's together. Our H-pipe ends with 2 outlets not 1, making it a true dual set up. If anything the resonator option should be 18" for those running short tails, then no resonator or 12" resonators for those that will be running the rear section. But these are all ideas and I appreciate everyone's input! so with that being said there will be TWO pipes coming off the H-pipe as pictured before. the midpipes will have TWO resonators (1 on each pipe) |
Quote:
I meant that you could have "bolt on" resonators along the same vein as the motordyne, that is, you have a removable/interchangeable section(s) on the H pipe. Take off the two resonated sections, replace with straight sections. As previously stated this only introduces problems at the gain of convenience; you'll have more flanges, more gaskets that could fail, more bolts/nuts that could rust shut, etc. Also, that H pipe comes together, so isn't it not a true dual (splitting hairs here) because you don't have individual pipes for each bank of cylinders? I feel like I'm just trolling now so I'm just gonna wait for short tail catback updates. |

Our H-pipe has 2 outlets, and that 1 short connector towards the end. That's suppose to help cancel out and resonate some exhaust frequencies. Just to make it super clear, here is the pic again this top side is where it will connect to your stock cat/hfc/tp/etc https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T...0/IMG_2236.JPG this bottom side is where we will begin to make the midpipe to connect to your short tails/oem rear section here is a picture of motordynes xyz pipe with the straight pipe option http://conceptautomotive.net/images/...h_straight.jpg as you can see it goes from 2 pipes into 1, and exits out of 1. This is not considered a true dual here the h-pipe and motordynes xyz pipe is the exact same replacement. There's goes from 2 inlets to 1 outlet, ours goes from 2 inlets to 2 outlets. the midpipe has not been built yet!! sorry I feel like I'm confusing a lot of people here |
I may have interest in h-pipe with 18" resonator mid pipe to connect to my oem nismo muffler.
|
I think the best option is to either produce a single version that has enough resonation to keep the short tail from being a cannon and to still magnify the very quiet stock exhaust note of the individuals using the rear section. Can't please everyone.
Enough of me, though. I'm definitely excited to see what turns out. |

It's funny this idea actually came from g/z guys which full exhausts that had major rasp issues. They called it the magnaflow xpipe and now it comes standard in FI's exhausts |
very interested i have the short tails i would love the rest !!!

If added to nismo muffler, will the sound change at all if used with resonators, of just overal better flow characteristics due to constant 2.5 diameter.

I think this mid pipe will bring me the exact sound and gains that I am looking for! Still debating test pipes. Heard them with a greddy exhaust tonight at the car show & it was more raspy then I would like-- oh well. I am picky
|
Want VQ sound? This delivers.
Here is your video, guys!
Khoi, I'm still debating if I want even more raw sound versus keeping my hearing by the time I'm 35. |

any eta on this product?
|
there is an R&D schedule, with a 2 month projection that my boss will be proposing tomorrow. The idea went through!!! that's a start
I'll keep you guys updated on the eta once I find out tomorrow |
Hey Khoi-
I am puttting together some clips. Would it be okay to use the "aam logo/watermark" for the video? Its strickly an exhaust video |
