I started off placing an order for the 18" cf and after a month of watching vids and reading reviews I called Blake and switched my order to the 12" cf. Still concerned that I would want louder, I came across Huck's videos and it showed that the CF non-res really wasn't too bad inside the cabin and sounded like a beast from the outside so another call to F.I. was made.

I say if you're on the fence just keep doing research until you finally end up going with the non-res LOL jk

If you're getting only the exhaust, non-res'd should honestly be fine for most people. I swear to you guys that when you're cruising down the road at 55-60 it's not really any different than stock. Zilver, my camera actually picked up more volume in the video while I was cruising at 60 than my ears did, in person it's not even as noticeable as it is in the video lol. When you step on it though... :yum:

Now if you're getting headers... OMG. So loud. I love it, but it's not for everyone. When I start my car in the morning to go to work, the pictures in my neighbors house next door vibrate and rattle against the wall.

I actually have a new video of my exhaust that I took at Zdayz that I have to render... I keep forgetting to do that.

What if I plan on going ART pipes? I'm assuming it shouldn't make it louder than the headers since ART pipes are resonated and give it a deeper sound.

Huck 06-21-2013 01:13 PM

To the best of my knowledge resonated TP's will always be quieter than the LTH's. You might want to consider the FI TP's too, I'm a bit biased in my opinion cause I'm a shameless FI whore but I've heard the Ark and the FI's (both resonated) and I think the FI's take it hands down. The Arks sound pretty good, but FI RTP's have zero rasp.

I survived Zdayz 2013

Quick question, I know there are threads about this, but I still haven't found concrete evidence about what causes the hissing sound in the VQ. I love the way it sounds, but does anybody know what really causes it?

KingJoseph 06-21-2013 08:39 PM

I'm pretty sure the sound you're referring to is the intake... do you hear it when in gear and not on the throttle? That's when I hear a "hiss" that I used to think was a rattle...

I hear it when off the gas, I found this from Tony back in 2009:

"This is a common sound that has been associated dating back to the 2003 VQDE 350Z!

I have heard it more so than not. In my personal opinion it has nothing to do with the flex joints. None of our systems have ever had flex joints. There have been many speculative conclusions and my personal assessment is that it is the exhaust pulsating through the thinner wall aftermarket cats and exhaust systems. The more back pressure you relieve the louder it gets. Ex. we notice it to be more prominent with resonated test pipes than high flow cats. We hear it very little with stock cats and our cat back.

To chalk it up, it has more to do with the way the engines in these specific cars are constructed and the less to do with the type of exhaust system you put on it. Yes, thicker wall tubing will help it dissipate because less of the harmonics will make its way through so naturally you will hear less.

Lastly, out of all the production exhaust systems we manufacture this engine- VQDE, VQHR are the only cars we have ever heard it in!

I hope that this may help somewhat,

Tony"

I was just wondering if someone got to the bottom of the hissing sound...

Hi Tony sir!

What about the shipping window for 761? Thanks!

snowsurfdirtx 06-23-2013 06:49 AM

so what's the wait time on this? i figured id give myself a month or so before i come home to start ordering parts and i'm guessing its closer to 3 months or more right now? :(

COSMO 06-23-2013 08:01 AM

I personally would like to run one of these but after hearing about the 3 months turn around time I just cant do it. Only wish there were more 3' exhaust options after going Forced Induction....

summer, being able to afford something and then having to wait another 3 months, all kinds of reasons.

Infidel 06-23-2013 03:08 PM

I have no choice in the matter. I have to wait for GTM's new TT to get to my doorstep. Shipping date on my FI CBE is 9/5 :icon14:

Installed #738 this weekend along with Z1 high flow cats.. so far, it sounds amazing! So much for a radio :rofl2: Apparently I did something wrong during the install, as I get a small rattle at low RPMs. Going to throw it on a lift soon and figure out where that's coming from.

Thanks again to Tony, Blake and the FI crew!

Made a rolling video to share with you guys..

quick question for others - any feedback on others experiences with FI test pipes/LTH/HFC's in combination with their FI exhaust? i'm looking for things along the lines of eg: "got HFC's wish i got headers" or "got test pipes, but wish i got HFC's because of the smell", or "got headers but i feel like it's a little loud for daily driving"

I'm looking to pair it with the FI 18" SS setup and I've debated the HFC/TEST PIPE/LTH question for soooo long now so hopefully others can chime to make me finally make a decision!

Personally I started off with just the exhaust with 12"res...then after seeing Hucks video I called up blake and we both agreed and switched my order to CF non-res Exhaust with T.P and honstly I'm Content with this decision :D
