Berk hfc?!

I just bought BERK HFC.... The mechanic says that i really dont need these HFC because the one currently on the car is a HFC. He says the stock is a HFC.... I dont know what to do??? Is there much of a difference??

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 05:31 PM

please let me know guys he is working on them right now...

LakeShow 04-19-2012 05:35 PM

Yes install them, make a huge difference. Guy is an idiot.

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 05:38 PM

what kind of a difference??? He said if something breaks that it would cost me more money....

mikey1600 04-19-2012 05:47 PM

louder exhaust note, one of the best HP gains from any bolt-on mod available out of intake/HFC/CBE

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 05:51 PM

I hope he doesn't break anything....

Flushnismo 04-19-2012 05:54 PM

-.-

memorylasts 04-19-2012 05:57 PM

Question... why did you buy it if you dont/didnt know what it is or does?

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 06:05 PM

i did my research them but the dumb guy made me question it...

mikey1600 04-19-2012 06:27 PM

he'll probably snap the top bolts on the factory cats, but the new cat's come with gaskets/new set of bolts anyway :D

wheee! 04-19-2012 06:38 PM

The Berk's will make a significant difference. Your mechanic is an ID10T...

kcquinn49 04-19-2012 07:27 PM

The stock cats are not high flow. Did you buy this car used? If so it's possible the previous owner could have changed them. Or the mechanic could just be dumb.

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 07:28 PM

Thanks guys I shouldn't have second guessed my research... I told him to put em on. Can't wait to hear and feel difference!

tonythetiger 04-19-2012 07:42 PM

i have berk hfc w/ stock exhaust and it def makes a big difference, took it to a shop to install it. took awhile for them to install since stock cat bolts were stripped off

kcquinn49 04-19-2012 07:42 PM

Is this your first mod?

How much did you pay? The guy told me he is going to have to torch the demon bolts

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 07:57 PM

Yes this is my first mod for this car...

MyZ4U2C 04-19-2012 08:06 PM

That's all I have on my car and it's very nice... especially with some high revs you can hear it and dyno numbers have shown almost a 25 hp gain...but will vary by each dyno... but close to 300 hpaw alone with the Berk HFC

370ZilverZ 04-19-2012 08:15 PM

Sounds like you need a new mechanic.

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 08:49 PM

Lol he is doing it all for 150, that includes berk htc + ark v2.2 cbe.

wheee! 04-19-2012 09:00 PM

You could do it all yourself for a pizza and two beer...

I installed the Berk CBE a few weeks ago in a little over an hour and a half. Not bad for me working by myself (on a friends lift). Tomorrow morning I am going to attempt the HFCs and I am dreading the Demon bolts, but I did go to church tonight and I lit a candle as well. I have all of my tools ready and I am hoping for the best. I can't wait to hear and feel the power. If I have time, I may get a dyno to check on the final results. I don't have a baseline, but I don't really care what I used to have, it's all about what I end up with at the end of the day.

I did it under a set of jackstands in 2 hours for free. And didn't need a torch either. Paid $40 for a set of grip-tite sockets so I wouldn't break any bolts and didn't listen to some schmuck giving me a line of crap about my stock cats being hi-flow.

Spray it good with pb-blaster or similar spray and get a set of grip-tite sockets and the job will go well.

Lol you might need a couple more candles... I would love to see the dyno. I'm going to dyno mine after all is done. I was going to go with the berk cbe but I fell in love with look of ark and many have said the ark was a little louder. I wish I had a friend with a lift! Good luck with the project man!!

You will like the ARK once they break in. Between them and the K&N typhoons, mine makes some nice music throughout its pipes in and out.

HDyoyo 04-19-2012 09:58 PM

Intakes will be my next performance mod... So I should expect the sound to get better after when?:eekdance:

j23a45m 04-19-2012 10:19 PM

lol thats a ma-con-ick
If he said headers was pointless then I would have agreed, unless its long tube headers!
I will install my F.I T/p tomorrow depending on what time my oem gaskets come in for the rest of the exhaust! yes I'm a oem gasket groupie, i feel a lot more comfortable using them to replace the gaskets ARK sends out with their exhaust, even though I've been using tho gaskets for 3 months.

About 500 miles for mine.

LakeShow 04-20-2012 11:41 AM

Makes sure you post some sound clips.

HDyoyo 04-20-2012 12:29 PM

Here are a couple vids of my Berk HFCs, but with an Akrapovic exhaust. They were a pain in the a** to put in. I finally did some googling and found out that the easiest way to install/remove cats was by removing some of the intake piping, using a few extensions and an impact wrench, and went through the engine bay. After doing that, install was a piece of cake.

HDyoyo 04-20-2012 02:18 PM

im definitely going to put a before and after HQ video!

Well, I now have HFCs to go with the CBEs:happydance::happydance:. All in all, the job took me less than two hours and the demon bolts were about 40% of the total time. The other bolts on the cats came off like they were just put on but the Demon bolts were somewhat of a challenge. The passenger bolt was accessed from the top with 36" of extensions, a 14mm surface drive socket and a big a$$ breaker bar (all 1/2" square drive). After getting all of these extensions in alignment, the bolt came right out. On the driver side, the same setup was used, but with 3/8" square drives. This is required because of the steering shaft that is right next to the Demon bolt. Unfortunately, this bolt siezed and had to be broken. I was surprised that the bolt broke and not the socket or extension. Replacing the cats was a piece of cake and just bolted back up. Like everyone has stated, plenty of PB Blaster was used, even though it didn't work on the one bolt.

I must say that this was one of the most challenging things I have ever done to a vehicle, but it was so worth it. The sound is absolutely intoxicating, even with the so-called hiss. I don't mind it at all, as it adds a touch of an exotic sound. I have been driving all afternoon with a huge smile on my face :rofl2::rofl2:.

Thanks for the well wishes!! If you read my last post, you will see how my day went. All in all, not so bad. I did drive to the dyno place, but they did not have time today to do mine in such short notice. I may have to make an appointment to "get-er done". The place I went to is called RDP Motorsports (RDP Motorsport - Dyno Tuning, Custom Vehicle Fabrication, Racing) and they had cars there with over 1400HP, although they were all American muscle, thjey said that they can get parts for almost any vehicles and also do the installation as well.

Yes, the lift was a real lifesaver, even though the place looks like an episode of "American Pickers". I bet you that I saved over 6 hours of total installation time for the CBE and HFCs that I would have spent by doing on my back.

Hi,

I just mounted my BERK CATs, very, very good sound and performance!! :driving:

CEL Light still off!

I ask you about the bracket to fix the CATs.

I see that the holes on the bracket are not aligned perfectly with the support bracket, and the two plates are not very orthogonal.
I think that if I tight the bolts, after km, something may be crack!
I am thinking to don't mount the support bracket...

Someone has this impression / issue ??

I found a solution that supports 300°Celsius....
...no rattle, no mechanic stress and the support is guaranteed!!!

My Berks HFC was installed on Friday and all I have to say is that this is the best bang for your buck. However I do have an issue with my check engine light coming on the following day but my mechanic did warn me in advance. If your looking for performance and don't want to break the bank, go for the berks hfc because it makes a big difference in performance and sound once you get past 4k rpm.

Anyone have any advice on the check engine light?
