I see no reason why it won't. In GA, they just hook up a cable to your OBDII port and check to see if you've had any recent CELs. As long as you haven't, you pass. It's that simple. No visual check, no sniffer. Heck, my 350Z passed and I was running test pipes! I think a lot of other states are the same way.

If they'll pass in CA, they'll pass anywhere. We have the strictest emissions laws around.

Even if it passed the sniff test it would fail the visual inspection in CA. Replacement exhaust parts have to be CARB approved or CARB exempt.

Everywhere else it shouldn't be a problem as long as the CO and other output gasses are within the guideline limits for the car.

depends on the smogger... some are cool and dont really check under your car :)

Other than visual, will HFC's pass in CA? I want to get some berk HFC's but I'm afraid the cel might come on. Also will the sniffer detect the cats? Thanks.

It will pass the sniffer, but not visual inspection. But as mentioned, you have about 5-6 years before that even happens.

SC no inspection at all. They'll definitely pass here.

Actually, if they pass the sniffer, you would need the appropriate documentation of the install of the new cat. You would have to show that your factory catalytic converter failed and these are the replacements. It also depends on what kind of smog check you get on your vehicle. Sometimes its just a sniffer test, another time it maybe a visual plus sniffer (which are usually done in state approved facilities).

You shouldn't get much heat from a high flow catalytic converter. In essence there is still a part there that is doing the job. If you had a straight pipe, then you'd be running into problems.

If you're really paranoid, take your car to state ref facility and get your setup tested. If you show up on your own to make sure your car is street legal, they provide you with the documentation that you passed specific test (i.e. exhaust decibel readings, emissions, etc.). Also if you fail, they give you the opportunity to fix the items without the risk of being reported to the DMV as a gross polluter.

NY check emissions on all vehicles past I think 76, but I am not sure..

FuszNissan 05-24-2009 08:22 AM

Most places are atleast 2 years before you have to get an inspection and emissions test.

ChrisSlicks 05-24-2009 09:30 AM

In MA you have to get an inspection when you buy the vehicle, even if it is brand new. However emissions are exempt at that time. Basically they look your car over and say "Hey nice car man".
