Any material recommendation that can resist heat??
hey 370zforum ppl :tiphat:
OMG my mid pipes are rattling again and this is the third time!! :( somehow, my mid pipes were hitting the cross member metal thingy really hard so I had to do something. (I have an aftermarket exhaust) First, I put this really thick hard rubber inbetween them and it started to melt. (never expected that to be melted) Second, I used something else and can't remember lol. Third, I used a fist wrap to wrap around the spot and used the hose clamps to tightened them up. It went WELL til now, it's rattling so crazy that my car literally sounds like a sh$t box. I'm not sure if the wraps were gone or loosen, I'm going to check soon. but before that! I want you guys to recommend me some good solution to it! (I don't want to buy a heat wrap, it's waste of money) I was thinking like maybe leather belt? or possibly microfiber cloth that I use to clean my car?? I don't know which material should I use. It doesn't have to be wraped around, something that can resist to heat well and fit inbetween the mid pipe and the cross member. (about .3inch??) Thanks! |
Have you tried to adjust the pipes to see if it will stop making contact?
I would try a serpentine belt or something of that sort that is made to withstand heat |
use washers between the cross brace and body to lower it just a tiny bit and create clearance
yea I tried to adjust the pipes. can't help it. T^T what if I take that cross member out? does that metal work as some kind of strut bar or anything that helps to hold the car better??
What about just taking it to a muffler shop so they can heat up the pipe and move it enough for it to clear?
umm I'm just trying to make it simple :) I don't want to take it to anywhere or spend additional money to fix it. it's just a simple problem :)

Sometimes cheap fixes are just that CHEAP! Good Luck :tiphat: Have you looked at header wrap? |
haha :) yea. I was thinking to use head wrap. my local stores sell them so expensive :( like $40
I want to try microfiber cloth first and see what happens. I think it will work well
oh wait a min. it says "do not iron"...ok microfiber cloth is out..lol
Like I said, you could try the serpentine belt, or ps belt. Something that is made to withstand heat. Wrap it around the piping and you're good to go
ok haitech. if things don't work well tonight, I will def try the serpentine belt. (It's too late anyway now to go buy it) Thanks for the solution anyway :)
