Any offers for my GT-R intake plenum and engine cover? It's boxed up and ready to ship. Priorities changed, so I won't be able to take on this project.

I want to see how this works out but I'd consider it. If this works out and shows large improvements, that plenum will become very marketable

My car is currently not ECU-tuned - it has been dynoed with the stock manifold and my other mods (exhaust, CAI, NST Pulleys) then will be dynoed with the GTR plenum conversion.

I think for most people its interesting how mods can perform just with the OEM Nissan tune, so you can have real bolt-on performance.

Of course I have read the articles in DSPORT where they tested the M370 manifold and found out that a ECU tune is vital to at least restore stock peak performance and have gains in the RPM band.

Depending on how the conversion performs with the stock tune I will then maybe do a custom tune for the manifold to see whats really possible on a NA car if you max out possibilities.

I will report about every step and result in detail when we start testing.

Chris

thats true, the tubing has to be about 4 inches shorter to fit the new position of the throttle bodies. For people having aluminum pipes thats quite simple, you can just cut that portion off and thats it. I will have to check how this can be done if someone has the stock rubber pipes, maybe there is enough flexiblity to make them fit without mods, that will be tested and reported.

if it requires a tune to make power, than that means it didnt make power.

these cars are MAF based. any changes in airflow will be detected and compensated for.

great design work ChrisUR... i am very very curious to see if there are any gains using the GTR plenum with your lower runner section.

What methods do you plan to use to manufacture this? I would assume billet cylinder head flanges and billet top flange with fabricated tubing inbetween?

also, care to share what your runner length within your part is? i have a VHR part and a GTR plenum here so I can compare overall runner length

we tried to make the runners as short as possible, but you have to have a certain height of the top flange to make the GTR plenum fit above the valve covers, so the runner lenghts is quite determined by technical limitations.

everything will be made out of aircraft aluminum to save weight. According to the CAD design program the whole part will be around 2.3kg / 5pounds so its slightly more than the stock cast lower manifold.

You are absolutely right, my primary goal is always to achieve performance gains with the stock tune and the ECU re-calibration itself for the higher air flow.

As it is proven to work with e.g. the STILLEN Gen3 this should also work with a better intake manifold design - first dyno tests will show :-)

Not by any means to be a naysayer but with all the time and development you are spending to make a OEM part fit a different car, why not just fabricate a higher flow manifold to utilize the stock components like fuel system and MAF? Wouldn't that simply things and perhaps save some design cost?

will the stock throttle bodies still work with the GTR intake manifold?

of course we could have designed a completely new manifold - but the challenge was to make GT-R fit.

So many people in this forum were talking about this conversion for years and my dream was to finally make this happen.

@indyn
yes, the stock throttle bodies are exactly the same with GTR and 370Z - you can simply bolt them on, all cables and hoses will fit.

I know its still very early in the development and production of this, but for all those wondering if their wallets can support this... has there been any talk about pricing yet? Or has that even been thought of. Not looking for something exact of course, but maybe a ballpark figure just so people can think about their finances because there is obviously a high demand for this part right now. And it will only grow once it's released, bolted on, and looks and performs miraculously.

Just trying to get a guesstimate... Are we talking $1k, $2k, $3k range?

I am very curious as well. I turned down the Motordyne manifold because it was not really necessary for my Greddy build, but this one is a want item!
