Top Speed or AAM short tail louder?

Anyone heard both, is the Top Speed of the AAM short tail louder?

NickTurnon 12-04-2011 01:53 PM

I have the AAM Short Tails-

Originally I just got them for my budget, but it turns out that I am in love with the exhuast.

You'd be surprised what a muffler delete does to the car. It roars when you turn it on. Does have a drone noise from the exhaust, but i listen to music pretty loud so it doesnt bother me. & when I want to listen to the engine, I just turn off the speakers and I pretty much have a sound system right there.

Ive seen videos on youtube for the TopSpeed & its not very loud. AAMs are very loud in person and everyone asks me what exhaust i have..

Highly recommend it for the price.

AAM = way to f*cking loud

Or maybe not everyone likes their car to be super loud? I know I don't.

OP- The AAM is louder for sure.

TypeOne 12-05-2011 04:47 PM

Short tails are going to be way louder.

I've had both and I prefer the sound of the Top Speed. I also recently got a Stillen cat back and honestly... I think the Top Speed sounds better. And it's WAY lighter too.

The short tails are good for the sound, but they really don't do much power wise when you compare to a full cat back. It's really night and day.

edub370 12-06-2011 09:10 AM

I just believe there is a difference between a great sound and just plain noise... aam's dont give this car a good tone, just make it loud

It's not that loud... It's a good volume... It's definitely not like getting straight pipes... That's just stupid loud.

Mine was probably partly due to the fact that i am currently running test pipes too

I dont know what your talking about? The AAM short tails make the car sound amazing i have had to many compliments to count on how good they sound. There are 3 different Z's that live in my area with all different full exhausts and they all have said they like my sound better than theres. The sound is a growl that would put most v8s to shame. But i guess to each is there own. IMO they are the best purchase for the $ and with the burnt tips the looks are great to.

Yes, louder than berk

Sh0velMan 01-29-2013 07:33 AM

On Topic: Short tails are louder than every other exhaust on the market, because they aren't an exhaust, they're a muffler delete. If you want to know what they'll sound like, just go take your muffler off and start the car.

Off Topic: This thread is over a year old. Why did you find it necessary to dredge it up just to post this? Aside from the fact that no V6 puts a V8's noise to shame, ever, anecdotal BS like "there are 3 Zs in my area and 'people' tell me mines is the bestest" doesn't contribute to anything. Ugh.

$100 get a shop to bend the pipes, weld on flanges, and hook up some used 350Z tips. That's was I did, a quick and cheap short tails. Sounds awesome, and breaks the tires loose easy now.

AAM Short tail is louder, sound like a rocket ship!

NOFATCHX 02-26-2013 04:14 PM

I've listened to my share of sound clips...I just installed today. This setup is loud! Good loud, race car loud... The sound can be managed if you know what gear to be in send when. I do have to say this exhaust has a resemblance of a Z06 with exhaust just slightly higher pitch.

Nonetheless, badass setup (I have test pipes too), loud, aggressive but it's def for a select few. Oh and your def getting a ticket, just a matter of time

ts-c63 02-26-2013 09:33 PM

FLUJOKE 03-06-2013 02:32 AM

maro 03-06-2013 06:38 PM

just got my aam short tail and just wow !!
maybe im not used to it but this thing
is way to loud for me,, drone really bad ,,
thinking abt changing to top speed ??
how is the drone on top speed true dual cbe??

FairladyZ 03-06-2013 06:45 PM

Loud is not good lol.....

And the guy who said the short tail on our v6 puts most v8s to shame is tripping lol.

Nothing beats the note of a v8, only thing I like better is v10 of course.

NOFATCHX 03-06-2013 08:26 PM

V8 tone with unique Z sound idle to 3000k, drone around 3000 rpm, fuckin race car at 5-7000 rpm. Top end response it's very noticeable.

Big worm 03-06-2013 11:38 PM

I've been on the same boat for months..
There is numerous videos of people that got the aam short tails and installed test pipes. Unfortunately, although you get about 10whp, its loud as hell. And I cant drive that everyday.

No one else has done HFC's with Short Tails. I think thats the exact sound volume that I will be able to handle. I have been waiting for someone to do this so I dont waste $400 on brand name HFCs haha.

Here is AAM with test pipes though...

If you do it, please upload a video!

I noticed some more growl when I added my intakes.. Not much sound though because I am using stock air boxes still.

Here is what mine sounds like right now--

hell yeah, i got the same breather mods as you, k&n drop ins and z1 post maf's. although i didnt really notice a sound difference from either. you know i think i may wanna get those HFCs and maybe rig on some sort of sound baffling thing. ill talk to a buddy of mine at a shop and see what we can work out.

NickTurnon 03-07-2013 12:51 PM

Add the HFC's and drive around with them and see if you like em. Take a video.

If you decide you don't like, then consider adding another set of resonators ($100)

Hotrodz 03-07-2013 07:21 PM

I think adding the s-line mid pipe would be perfect. It too will give you hp gains and it should give you a deeper growl without a significant increase in sound. But I get it if you are on a budget!

thanks for the idea, Ill look into it. even still, i know i wont be happy until i squeeze power from every piece of the exhaust system... :ughdance:

Yeah big worm- Their midpipe gives 19whp/19tq without a tune.
Short tails obviously do nothing. But that at least gives you some more power. Only problem is $$$. They want $800 or join the group buy that might be ending or over..

Anyways, you can almost get a new exhaust for that price, so thats something to consider!

ts-c63 03-12-2013 03:50 PM

buddy of mine took this video yesterday as we were coming home from a meet.. I down shifted from 5th to 4th and got on it a little barely going over 4k rpm... its actually funny how loud it gets after 3k rpm..

video was taken with a phone so not amazing quality.
