Top Speed or AAM short tail louder?
Anyone heard both, is the Top Speed of the AAM short tail louder?
|
I have the AAM Short Tails-
Originally I just got them for my budget, but it turns out that I am in love with the exhuast. You'd be surprised what a muffler delete does to the car. It roars when you turn it on. Does have a drone noise from the exhaust, but i listen to music pretty loud so it doesnt bother me. & when I want to listen to the engine, I just turn off the speakers and I pretty much have a sound system right there. Ive seen videos on youtube for the TopSpeed & its not very loud. AAMs are very loud in person and everyone asks me what exhaust i have.. Highly recommend it for the price. |
AAM = way to f*cking loud

OP- The AAM is louder for sure. |
Short tails are going to be way louder.
I've had both and I prefer the sound of the Top Speed. I also recently got a Stillen cat back and honestly... I think the Top Speed sounds better. And it's WAY lighter too. The short tails are good for the sound, but they really don't do much power wise when you compare to a full cat back. It's really night and day. |
I just believe there is a difference between a great sound and just plain noise... aam's dont give this car a good tone, just make it loud

On Topic: Short tails are louder than every other exhaust on the market, because they aren't an exhaust, they're a muffler delete. If you want to know what they'll sound like, just go take your muffler off and start the car.
Off Topic: This thread is over a year old. Why did you find it necessary to dredge it up just to post this? Aside from the fact that no V6 puts a V8's noise to shame, ever, anecdotal BS like "there are 3 Zs in my area and 'people' tell me mines is the bestest" doesn't contribute to anything. Ugh. Quote:

$100 get a shop to bend the pipes, weld on flanges, and hook up some used 350Z tips. That's was I did, a quick and cheap short tails. Sounds awesome, and breaks the tires loose easy now.

I've listened to my share of sound clips...I just installed today. This setup is loud! Good loud, race car loud... The sound can be managed if you know what gear to be in send when. I do have to say this exhaust has a resemblance of a Z06 with exhaust just slightly higher pitch.
Nonetheless, badass setup (I have test pipes too), loud, aggressive but it's def for a select few. Oh and your def getting a ticket, just a matter of time |
ive never heard short tails in person but my topspeed with hfc is pretty damn loud!
cold start 370z cold start - YouTube launch (sorry for camera angle) 370z launch - YouTube normal acceleration 370z acceleration - YouTube |
Thats much louder then short tails with stock cats..
ts-c63, Too loud for me to have as my DD, but its definitely BEAST MODE |

just got my aam short tail and just wow !!
maybe im not used to it but this thing is way to loud for me,, drone really bad ,, thinking abt changing to top speed ?? how is the drone on top speed true dual cbe?? |
Loud is not good lol.....
And the guy who said the short tail on our v6 puts most v8s to shame is tripping lol. Nothing beats the note of a v8, only thing I like better is v10 of course. |
V8 tone with unique Z sound idle to 3000k, drone around 3000 rpm, fuckin race car at 5-7000 rpm. Top end response it's very noticeable.

ok guys right now i have the aam shorties and im in love with the sound, its perfect. eventually i want to free up power by opening up our stock cats a little more with some HFC's but i dont want it to be much louder. any solutions??? im just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me.

There is numerous videos of people that got the aam short tails and installed test pipes. Unfortunately, although you get about 10whp, its loud as hell. And I cant drive that everyday. No one else has done HFC's with Short Tails. I think thats the exact sound volume that I will be able to handle. I have been waiting for someone to do this so I dont waste $400 on brand name HFCs haha. Here is AAM with test pipes though... |

I noticed some more growl when I added my intakes.. Not much sound though because I am using stock air boxes still. Here is what mine sounds like right now-- |

Add the HFC's and drive around with them and see if you like em. Take a video.
If you decide you don't like, then consider adding another set of resonators ($100) |
I think adding the s-line mid pipe would be perfect. It too will give you hp gains and it should give you a deeper growl without a significant increase in sound. But I get it if you are on a budget!

Short tails obviously do nothing. But that at least gives you some more power. Only problem is $$$. They want $800 or join the group buy that might be ending or over.. Anyways, you can almost get a new exhaust for that price, so thats something to consider! |
buddy of mine took this video yesterday as we were coming home from a meet.. I down shifted from 5th to 4th and got on it a little barely going over 4k rpm... its actually funny how loud it gets after 3k rpm..
video was taken with a phone so not amazing quality. 370z exhaust loud!!! - YouTube |
VERY LOUD! ^^^
HFCS add a ton of sound to that Top Speed. Wow. |
